it says in the user guide that you must not depress the parking brake release button when applying the hand brake. in other words, you should 'ratchet' the hand brake on.
my driving instructor, on a series 3 always told me never ratchet the hand brake on as eventually it will wear out the locking mechanism. this made sense to me and he's certainly not the only one to tell me this. why do L/R want us to ratchet the hand brake on? Ravers |

By doing it like that you can at least feel if the handbrake is correctly adjusted. A well adjusted handbrake will be locked up after 3 clicks. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.
