So, started on the La Salle headlining, jeez, why does everything have to take so long and why does 1 job create 5 more?
Laid it out on the floor to see how the 3 pieces interlink, so I know which goes first etc, at least in 3 pieces its a little easier to manoeuvre than the larger sections for the 110 would be. Click image to enlarge The front section needs some work, firstly the sun visors from my old headlining needed bolting on, which was simple. Next, the front interior light needs fitting and the La Salle headlining has no cut-outs yet, so it's into the workshop to create a template in cardboard before cutting the GRP. It requires a rectangular section cutting out to allow the light unit to sink up into the headlining space, otherwise the threads in the back mounting plate don't reach through enough. Measure twice, cut once. I used my new air compressor and sabre saw for the this and it made things so easy. Trial fit - all ok. In the rear I have 4 speaker mounting plates from La Salle (as I didn't want the headlining with speaker pods and a radio mount in the roof). All my wiring is in place in the roof of the LR ready to feed through for the 4 speakers, I bought 4 x 4"Alpines to match the new Alpine head unit. The speaker mounting plates need cut-outs for the speakers and a hole in the headlining behind for the speaker wires. The sabre saw worked again here but I hit a snag, the speakers are just a little too deep and foul on the headlining, so, I need some spacers. MUD seem to have some that look the part so will need to get a couple of pairs to lift the speakers out a few mm. By the end of today, I'd cut all the speaker mounts but can't get any further, still need another pair of hands for holding it in place while I mark and drill and screw it in, section by section. I then blacked up all the plastics and rubber work on the LR after the polishing yesterday, it really makes a difference to highlight all the window rubbers, wiper arms, door seals, tyres, arches, mudflaps, grille and light surrounds. Had to pop out in it to fuel up for Sunday, got lots of admiring glances and some waves from Landy owners. Fitted RDX snow guard vents - prefer the sideways facing vents to the front ones.
Also fitted clear indicators all round. Clear tail lights next, just need to get the bulbs. Need to ask about straight LED swap versions from Hong Kong on the Bay and if they are any good Click image to enlarge 2016 D4 HSE 1998 110 TUM HS FFR Hard Top XD WOLF 1982 Series 3 SWB Petrol |

AT LAST!
The La Salle headlining has started to go in. What with being away on holiday or away for work my time has been somewhat limited, the Mrs Wife helped me hold it up while I drilled the holes and put in self tappers, then I wired up the speakers and mounted them, and then finally inserted the proper trim rivets in place of the self tappers one by one. Hopefully will get the front section done tomorrow and then its complete! You might just be able to see the recently fitted MUD Curry Hooks too. Splendid. I'm not sure why I post these things, no one ever makes any comments!
Anyway, the front headlining is now in, the La Salle version looks stunning in situ, and although a bit of a at the front corners, it went in pretty smoothly, but it's certainly a 2 person job. What's lovely neat job, just what I need in my 90 as the headlining is sagging due to water ingress!
It would be an ideal opportunity to remove all the old stuff, seal the leaks and then soundproof and fit like new. Trouble is after having it like it for six years I'm beginning to like it the was it is, should have done it when I got it, but too busy driving about and grinning. Looks like you are going to end up with a perfect looking truck by the time you have finished. Absolutely brilliant job RRUK!!!
You really have done a great thread showing people how to/what to do, and the photography is great as well. I'd like to thank you for documenting your hard work so the likes of lazy gits like me can follow in your footsteps - you've given me some great ideas and shown me what i want to do with my 110. Keep up the good work and keep posting! Cheers, Ste. 96 2.5 N/A LWB 110 Hardtop |

Wow, some great feedback, thanks chaps.
I'm no mechanic, but I'll have a go at stuff. I've really enjoyed (most) of it! I'd love to swap out the transfer gears for Discovery rated ones but I might just be punching above my weight with stuff like that, who knows. 2016 D4 HSE 1998 110 TUM HS FFR Hard Top XD WOLF 1982 Series 3 SWB Petrol |

A small update, thanks to the first spring evening which is dry! Enables some little jobs to be done.
Tonight I removed the rear rubber mat. The previous owner had fitted the cargo rings in the rear floor, but over the top, quite handy, but instead of trying to unbolt these I simply cut around them and removed the matting (quite heavy). Once it was out I scrubbed and pressure washed it. Next, I vacuumed, brushed, scraped, washed, mopped and scrubbed the rear tub floor out, very satisfying to get right into all the corners where dirt accumulates. Click image to enlarge Once dry I used up my remaining aluminium foil backed sound deadening material on the wheel boxes, plus some of the aluminium tape over the joints as it makes it looks so much neater. Both sides are now done and I will also do the main floor section, should improve the noise reduction. Will have to get round to that when I back from my week in Vegas on business. Oh, and maybe when I am back I will get me one of those all in one powered subwoofers for the stereo and mount behind the passenger seat. Nifty. 2016 D4 HSE 1998 110 TUM HS FFR Hard Top XD WOLF 1982 Series 3 SWB Petrol Last edited by RRUK on 20th Nov 2012 10:51pm. Edited 1 time in total |
