Oil & Filter or just oil
Just clocked 10K since last service. Should I just do the oil or would the oil remaining in the filter contaminate the new. Filter is only ZAR120 so no big deal. Puma 110 - gone

Surely there won't be much left in the filter.

When I had mine done, they flushed the system before filling up but i doubt it did much. One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS

I always replace OIl and filter every 10.000 km.
Better to be in the safest side

Cheers! Eduardo

Thanks guys.
Got the filter just now and finally managed to trace the same oil that the dealers here use.
It is made by Castrol and meets the Ford spec.
Last year I could only buy 200 liters at a time for ZAR 8K but now they have decided to release 1 litre bottles but you have to buy 12 in a box.
Now sorted for the oil change but a storm of note brewing outside so no chance tonight, or the next day, or the next..... Crying or Very sad Puma 110 - gone

Hi CapeLandy,

Please can I ask what spec the oil is and where you sourced it from. The dealers here recommend Castrol 5w30 but I ca't seem to find it anywhere....

Thanks.

Castrol sell it but you have to buy minimum 12 bottles of 1 liter each at abour ZAR520. Not too bad but you have to get it at the Castrol Agents in your area.

It's called Magnatec Professional A1 and meets the Ford spec - I belive LRSA buy the very same stuff in 200liter drums.

I would recomend changing it much sooner even than 10K looking at the condition when I drained it. Puma 110 - gone

Maybe so, but this is the only one meeting the spec A1 from Ford that I could find in South Africa.

I did import Redline 5W40 synthetic oil as recomended to me our local forum but when I asked this forum to make sure, I was told not to use it. Big Cry

So there you go - better stick with the poor oil but has the approval. Mad Puma 110 - gone

By looking at the workshop manual, all Land Rovers (RR, D3, FL) with all kind of engines you can use altrnatives, except for the Puma TDCI. So, yes, the only oil is that one factory recommends. Puma 110" SW

Thats because the TDCI is a ford engine and the others are Jag or german modified Mike

Funnily enough when mine went in to the independent garage from whom I bought it for an early oil and filter change, the oil used was a fully synthetic Shell brand which meets the specifications. It is stated on the side of the bottle. Shell was used because when the oil supplier was telephoned to find out what they had that met the specifications, they asked what engine was fitted. When they heard that it was the Tdci they suggested the Shell brand immediately, stating that this is what they were supplying to Ford dealers for the Ford version of the Tdci. I e-mailed Shell who confirmed that it met Land Rover specs for the Tdci. Actually I asked them if they had anything that would meet the specifications for this engine and they e-mailed back with the same recommendation as the oil distributor, who is independent and supplies many brands and not just Shell.
So long as the specifications you reqiure are stated on the oil bottle or container you should be alright. Some brands are more readily available than others in certain places. Always check the specifications stated in the handbook against those on the bottle. My Puma Tdci handbook does not list a specific brand -just the specifications for the oil required. If in doubt e-mail the oil company and keep the reply. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel
