Clunk on acceleraton & decelleration.
My 2008 90 has developed a cluck on accelleration and decelleration. It's not too bad, but annoying. Much playing around today seems to suggest it's either the rear prop' (although no play can be felt) UJ bearings worn or the flange bolts loose (to be checked tomorrow).

I'm hoping it's one of the above because if it's the diff' or drive shafts it's gonna be painful in the wallet.

Anyway, in the mean time and whilst I'm underneath I might as well grease the uj's and check the oil level in the diff'. Anyone got any idea what grease I should use and which oil should I use in the diff'?

Many thanks.

Any NGLI-2 grease. As for oil any GL-5 80W-90 or 75W-90.

Did you have the clutch exchanged any time? Puma 110" SW

A lithium based grease. This would only, if your lucky, hold off the inevitable for a short while. Did you test for play in ujs with park brake on or off ?

Thatīs in the book. GL-5 has more sulphur as a Extra Prssure (EP) additive. GL-4 are medium pressure oils (gearbox, Tbox, etc) Puma 110" SW

Cheers. No, still on original clutch (43+k miles). The clunk also occurs over bumps as you drive, so my thoughts are loose bolts.

Good question as to weather I had the parking brake on or not. Can't recall. My gut feeling was that it was on, but not sure now.

It was awkward to rock the vehicle to and fro from underneath and check this and that at the same time, but you could feel the clunk through the base of the diff' pan.

More checking tomorrow.

One would have hoped that the UJ's would have been greased at the last service about a month ago, but as they couldn't be bothered to refit the oil filler cap, perhaps I'm hoping for a bit much here Wink

Thanks so far.

Cheers for all that. More checking tomorrow as I've just got back from underneath him.

No sign of play in the prop', but two nuts at the transmission brake end tightened a tad. They were not lose by any means, but tightened a fraction.

I've sussed the original source of the cluck/taping noise, which got me looking in the first place. The front pad's are rattling Embarassed.

More checking tomorrow.

Thanks all.

Not the above "clunk", but found another knocking this afternoon. Front left mud flap was loose Rolling Eyes.
