Not much response to previous query. 2010MY 90, engine running fine since recent service. I get the 5 EGR cleaning cycles on shut down, But It also seems to do 1 cleaning cycle on overrun. If I start engine and run it up to 2000revs then take foot of gas pedal I get an EGR cleaning cycle "chukka " noise. If I disconnect EGR plug then no noise. Is this normal? LANDYWATCH

Can't hear anything from inside the cab - do you have your head in the engine bay? Tell someone you love them today because life is short.

Thanks ZeDefender and MK. I was sat in cab. Didn't notice this happening prior to B service, a few weeks ago. Engine is running fine and Fuel consumption is unchanged. The only difference is this noise, which MUST be the EGR as it stops if I disconnect the EGR plug. LANDYWATCH

According to the Defender expert at the Dealership, this is normal. They offered a free health check including the EGR, so we will see. LANDYWATCH

I do wonder how you can hear it from the cab - either your engine is whisper-quiet (envy) or the EGR valve is sodding loud
I have to listen quite carefully to hear the self-clean cycle when I switch off... Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

Not overly loud. Cannot hear with radio on volume 12 ( Land Rover unit ), but do tend to drive with window open. LANDYWATCH

I agree Mick, it probably is, but everything is working well at the moment. But can you, or anyone, explain how or why the EGR valve carries out a cleaning cycle whilst the engine is running. LANDYWATCH

It could be that the EGR valve is all gunked up and thus sticking when the revs drop. Chuck in a bottle of diesel cleaner and see if that clears it up? If not, regular doses of 2SO should do the trick -- 2010 Defender Puma 90 + BAS remap + Alive IC + Slickshift + Ashcroft ATB rear 2015 Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged Defender Puma Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zZ1en9 Discovery 4 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zXrtKO Range Rover/Sport L320/L322/L494 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zc58JQ |

Have used 2SO for past 21,000 miles at 250mls/tank. LANDYWATCH
