Hi all need some idea tuning if we can.
I have in my 90 a nakamichi cd400 head unit which is a belter but is also a bit redundant as all it does is act as an amp for my wildfire s via the aux input. So this set me to thinking why not just have a baby 2 channel amp fed from a jack plug; it can then just hide in the bottom of the dash tray no moving parts so less bothered by muck and dust hidden from view and affording a bit more space for hammer and nails and foot shears and such. So I need some advice on what to buy and what not to in the world of low power compact stereo amplifiers. Please and thank-you. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon. |

Hi Lambert,
I fitted one of these behind my head unit, super slim and ticked all the right boxes. Kept 10cm speakers and sounds great. ![]() Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

*deleted due to getting carried away* Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

I think you pays your money! You gets your choice! Do a Google search and get reviews on prospective choices. It looks 'cheap and cheerful' and that's exactly what you may get. 20 watts rms may be sufficient for your needs if your Defender is running sweet as a nut but I would suggest a minimum of 40 would be better to drown out all the creaks, rattles and groans and not just from the missus.... ![]() Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

That's exactly what a friend of mine did in his 90. had an amp mounted behind the cubby box (on the bulkhead), quite a beefy one running a pair of 6x9's and a crossover to a sub.
Just had his ipod connected on a flylead in the cubby box. He could adjust the volume on the ipod or turn the gain up/down on the amp. So no stereo in the dash to be seen/stolen etc. On my stereo, i mainly listen to music i've downloaded onto a mem stick, but occasionally I like to listen to real time radio, so keep a "normal" stereo in there. |

That's interesting cos I have a Genesis amp from back in my scooby days. Might have a go at putting that in see how it likes it. Cheers. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon. |
