Portugal 2010 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 DCPU Keswick Green
The front ones have a pair of metal tabs that need to be welded on the diff to secure the front bolts...

If I remember I'll go get the instructions later on, and I'll post them here...

You only need to weld the lugs on competition vehicles and even then its not compulsory.

Front Diff Guard.

1) Park the vehicle on level ground and chock the road wheels.
2) Remove the track rod catcher (defender models) or steering damper bracket (Range rover and discovery models) from the underside of the differential(not applicable for rear diffs
3) Remove the top two differential flange securing nuts
4) Fit the main diff guard to the axle and bolt up in to place using the bolts supplied. At this stage only lightly tighten these bolts to allow for adjustment.
5) Fit the top bracket to the two studs at the top of the differential flange with the long lug facing over the top of the casing.
6) Fit the securing bolt supplied through the lug hole and through the main diff guard top bolt hole.
7) Using a pair of mole grips clamp the two brackets together so that they pull up tight to each other and fit the nut to the bolt protruding through the hole
8. Tighten the bolt firmly
9) tighten all other bolts firmly including the top diff bolts
10) Refit the steering damper to the base of the diff guard in the case of the range rover and discovery models.


Competition vehicles

Weld on lug can be supplied as an option to the top-mounting bracket to allow for quicker differential changes.

1) The main diff guard should be fitted as per the above instructions and then bolt the weld on lug to the main guard.
2) Push the main guard in at the top so that the lug touches the casing.
3) Tack weld the lug to the casing and remove the main guard.
4) Fully weld the lug to the casing and refit the main guard as per the above instructions.

For cars with altered castor angle the guard will still fit but it will be necessary to fit a 6mm spacer plate between the base of the diff and the diff guard.



Rear rock slider guard.

This Rockslider is designed to fit 110/130-defender models post 2002 fitted with the P38 rear axle. Earlier models require the use of our Salisbury diff guard part no A1075.

Tools: You will need the following.
A) 9/16 AF socket and ratchet with extension
B) 9/16 AF ring or combination spanner
C) 13mm Ring or combination spanner
D) 19mm socket
E) Large screw driver


1) Park the vehicle on level ground and chock the road wheels.
2) Slacken off the three lowest nuts securing the differential to the axle casing so that they are at the end of the studs.
3) Remove the top two nuts at approximately 12 O’clock and 1 O’clock respectively.
4) Fit the top bracket of the Rockslider over the two studs at the top and refit the nuts loosely.
5) Fit the Rockslider to the axle casing ensuring that the slotted holes engage with the three exposed studs at the bottom of the axle casing. Also confirm that the top plate is hooked over the top of the Rockslider and not jammed behind it. Ensure that the Rockslider is pushed firmly up in to position.
6) Now fit the two 12mm bolts through the side bracket to secure it to the differential casing. It may be necessary to use the large screwdriver in one of the holes to get the bolts to fit by levering the bracket in to position. Tighten the first bolt and then fit the second.
7) Now position the top plate so that the M8 fixing bolt can be fitted and screwed in to the Rockslider.
8. Now tighten the three lower differential nuts previously slackened off clamping the Rockslider in place.
9) Tighten the two top differential nuts and then the M8 bolt fixing this plate to the Rockslider.
10) Check that the top plate does not rub on any of the brake pipes and if so gently bend them away to give a clearance.
11) Finally check all fixings and ensure the front tip of the guard clears the Prop shaft drive flange through a full rotation.

I'm not sure I understand all that is written Lorryman... Embarassed

But I read my instructions over and over and I cannot see how to fit the front diff guard without welding the tabs supplied... Question the pics attached have the tabs welded.... Neutral Regards

Probably best to have a chat with QT direct. I can't imagine it being weld on otherwise a LOT of people wouldn't buy IMHO

But the front diffs and diff protections are all the same (90 and 110, td4 and td5) aren't they? Regards

I'm not sure myself someone better informed would be better to answer that question. I was just under the impression it was bolt on fit. If welding is needed at all going the whole hog and having the D44 weld on one's would be worth considering also although expensive!

Sorry, I see where the confusion is coming from now Embarassed

lrmaniac has a LH drive Defender which means he probably has this front diff guard:

Compare the above one to a RH drive Defender like mine which uses this one:




And the kit I got for my 110 Puma was this:

Also not shown, are a couple of brackets included which attach onto the top of the Diff mounting bolts and reach over the top of the diff to catch the top mounting hole you can see on each guard to secure them tightly to the diff at the top.

I had QT guards on the Discovery- they do a great job and as posted above need no welding providing you get the ones that wrap all the way over the top.

But to also throw this out there.......... Also consider the southdown. I decided on this one for the Defender because of the extra protection it offers:
