2012 Defender 110 Puma 2.2 DCPU Santorini Black
Clunk clatter clunk again
Right I know there's a few post on this but I can't decide which problem I have
After work today we went for a drive to the new forest about 80 miles mostly 60 miles of A3 and M27 there's through the forest at the cadnum turning I heard a slight rattle clunking when I selected neutral and coasted the last 2/3m to the roundabout thought ok might be me not changing gear fast enough after 4years of autos the next junctions and turns it was there and more noticeable
So is it most likely to be he hand brake problem or the dreaded transfer box problem ? Sad Sad
Sorry to ask but as its only done 800 miles I am a bit peed off to be honest Big Cry
But I do still have the biggest smile having just spent 5 hours driving Rocky in the sunshine Very Happy It's good to be back from the dark side

It's only happened after the long motorway miles something getting hot and not just me ? It's good to be back from the dark side

How many clicks until the brake shoes start to brake? If is not the hand brake then I would look after the clutch. All Tboxes have a slack which is around 1/4 turn measured between both output shafts. Puma 110" SW

Same on mine - sounds like a bag of spanners in the Tbox. I've concluded it's probably the handbrake, since the clattering goes if I pull on the lever gently. Doesn't come back for a while then. Really need to be ars*d to take the shoes out one day and check it disappears.

For the time being I will try adjusting it again tomorrow - thanks for the reminder Thumbs Up

p.s. Don't worry - mine did it from new after long motorway trips. Then at around 2000 km it disappeared... then came back around 5000 km. Tbox still works fine at 12,000 km Wink Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

When dealers swap the TB do they have to re-adjust the handbrake as it seems from previous threads that this problem could be one and the same! Confused

Definitely handbrake, adjustment by any decent LR mechanic should sort it.

Unlike "Avalon Luxury Cars" LR dealer in Munich who failed 3 times to fix it and chewed up my gearbox for fun Surprised(
Do it yourself! The less time spent with the stealers the better Evil or Very Mad Tell someone you love them today because life is short.

Ok the wife took Rocky back to harwoods today ref clunk clatter and the had a look and said it was the handbrake which was over tight and slackened it off a bit and told her that should sort it
But because it only did it after a long run we won't know if it's fixed till next week when we are in the new. Forest so fingers crossed It's good to be back from the dark side

So mine, tightened "correctly", still does it Evil or Very Mad
However, if I pull the handbrake whilst it's doing it, it stops for a while - hopefully clear evidence that it is the handbrake and nothing else.
Since mine does it tight or loose, I am giving up for now since it must be some fault with the internals. I will fit the X-Brake a.s.a.p.
