Wading with wet alternator and electrics!
The TDCi is recorded in the brochure as having a maximum wading depth of 50 cm which is halfway up the chassis rail or just above the wheel hub centre!

I presume this is because of the electrical boxes fixed on the inside of the chassis rail at the front, the interior electrics and further up the alternator! Does a fully prepped wading TDCi have all this moved up or doesn't it matter? The alternator for instance must get soaked when driving in wet conditions anyway, surely not a great design but covering the alternator in muddy water when deep wading can't be good Confused

Thinking wading depth is due to the air intake for the engine, not for the electronics/electrics.

Not to mention water entering the fuel tank vent pipe beneath the rear wheel arch Shocked

land rover insisted that the ECU in the engine compartment was water proof until they emptyed it of all the welsh water I had smuggled across the boarder Rolling Eyes

the big issue with the alternator is mud, best advice seems to WD 40 before and after, killed two alternators in the first two years, but non since, funny how things change when your warrenty runs out Wink

have a close look in the underseat boxes especially in the corners ... more holes than an aero Shocked

mines all filled now i have sealed batteries... although interestingly the genuine LR battery had a breather pipe that poked outside the box.... not sure if thats good or bad for wading Rolling with laughter

slightly Off Topic but when i looked in my battery box, i come across the breather pipe for the battery - one end of it went outside and the other end seems to have come adrift Crying or Very sad i presume it goes onto the battery and not onto the tray, but i couldnt find where it should go, any ideas?? thanks, Harry

small hoes either side (short sides) towards the top ..
