Rear Diff issues
Hi Guys

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced any rear diff issues and if so what was causing it?
My car is 12 months old having just turned 14k and has just eaten its 5th rear diff!!! The rear prop has been tested by a specialist and found to be perfect! Shocked
I am waiting for LR to get back to me with a plan but wondered if anyone else had any similar issues.

Cheers Rob

have you lifted the truck ? if not and the prop is perfect, then i'd get it checked by a specialist ... either somethings not lined up or they are bodging the diff repair each time.

did the garage say exactly what went wrong with the diffs each time ?

did you try a search on the forum for similar?

I would insist they change the whole rear axle assembly. It sounds like the axle tube is bent, or the diff is not fitting parallel with the axles.

Good luck! Smile

Holy mothballs! that must be some record Sad

Yeah, sounds like it's another issue that's causing the diff to fail. --

Thanks for the responses guys.
bpman the truck is not lifted i have changed the tyres but thats the only thing that could cause problems with the drive train.

Naks cheers for the PM LR are aware of it and working on a plan. If 5 diffs is boardering a record then the fact that its chewed the latest one up in less than 150 miles has got to be!!!!

Tim_NZ that is my next line of thought, they put the last 2 down to a collapsed half shaft bearing but since that has been replaced it should be working fine!

A half shaft bearing shouldn't cause diff failure. I agree with the others, there is something else going on here. I'm surprised that LR would just keep approving diff replacements via the dealer like that without some further investigations. And that the dealer just kept on replacing it without investigating more.

To be fair the dealer is as annoyed as me. LR dont seem to want to locate the issue instead they just keep throwing diffs at it. However a diff every 3 days may have them change thier minds.

I had a call from Duckworth the other day, telling me there has been a recall regarding the diff oils. They wanted my 61 plate 90, and not the 11 plate 110 though. Confused

If that whine is bearable leave it alone!!! Mine went in 6 months ago with the same whine but alot louder, they went through 4 diffs to find one that didn't whine and even then it makes slight noise, well did its was a sort of clunk clunk clunk again within 2 weeks of putting it in bit like this one at the moment!!!!!!
