My reverse lamp is hooked up to my work light, both lamps light my rear up beautifully!!

Mag-mount? [you can place a steel plate behind panel] Or suction mount ... both common worklamp fittings  Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant. |

Just for info, the reason I particularly went for a USA made Cree LED lamp, was because I bought one of their maglite upgrade kits for one of my 'D' cell maglites and was massively impressed

Bigfog: AFAIK unless your set up includes a switch it's illegal to have rear work lights triggered by selecting reverse gear. Correct me if I'm wrong
TIG: How about magnetec based worklamp? I think D44 do one. Only problem would be: A. theft and B. routing the cable. Maybe routed under rear door seal providing that it doesn't get crushed or damaged! |

That is correct. So, I suspect, is a more powerful bulb in the existing light. In the grand scheme of things though, there are far worse lighting related crimes on the roads every day that go ignored (fog lights, blue lights, aftermarket HIDs, etc) so I can't see overly bright reversing lights being at the top of anybodys 'to prosecute' list. An isolating switch on a worklight isn't a bad idea though.
Mount it inside one of the small rear windows? To be honest, mounting it externally isn't too much of a problem - use a CB aerial gutter mount. Getting the power to it is the tricky part. You might be able to thread a cable through the door seal, but that seems a bit too Heath Robinson for me. So, short of something powered by induction, you'll need a hole for a cable. Have a look at a shooting suppliers, I saw a pretty impressive suction mount shooting light on the stand next to mine at the Midland Game fair. Works off a 12v socket and was remote control, don't know how good the mount was but should do the job Id have thought. Supposed to be for spotting bunnies etc but would work just as well as a rear spot. Lightforce do a suction mounted 30watt stubby light, so that is a possibility.
There are various watertight seals for taking wiring through the roof etc. Have just picked up a sample for taking up to 5 cables through roof. If you have a roof rack fitted cabling can be run along rack to front down snorkel and under bonnet or down rear access ladder. Brendan |

don't want a rack or a ladder. I'm thinking mounting off the wheel carrier..so it raises above the wheel and shines down.
