Rear door desk/cooker housing
Hullo!

So I had an idea today while at work. I spend a lot of time mapping from the truck and the quest for a good writing surface goes on, currently using a weatherwriter. Thinking about it I remembered the "cooker" boxes you see on the back of doors. I was thinking that it would be perfect for writing/laptop-ing. However, being Cumbrian I'm Censored if I'm paying £120 for one Very Happy Instead I will make one. Has anyone tried this before (can't imagine no one has!)? Im thinking of buying a chequer plate door card in exchange for my standard one, then attaching a full hinge along another piece of plate and some kind of retainers to to hold it level. Any ideas? Current thinking is draw bridge like chains of maybe some of those hingey things that fold in the middle?

Yep, just like that. What are the hinges? Good things come to the wild and free

As fitted to my old disco. Simple rectangle of ali, pair of normal door hinges pop riveted on and a trailer breakaway cable to support it. A rotating tag on one side to hold it upright when not in use. Simple, effective, cheap. I originally used strimmer cord with electrical crimps as supports (as you see the rear one still is but thought they might melt when cooking so added the wire instead!

Just ordinary hinges. The hinges were mounted on an aluminum profile section, this was bolted onto the door - used the holes of spare wheel carrier. I used another part of checker plate on the door card for protection. Cheers, Vincent
