The Puma doesn't have a dual-mass flywheel, but these are classic symptoms of the usual fault with the early Puma driven plate. Does your vehicle have the original clutch?
You will need to change it sooner rather than later since if it fails altogether the collateral damage will make the repair a lot more expensive. |

Unfortunately I have no idea - I would assume so only because the vehicle has only done 25K. Any ideas what's that likely to cost? Mark |

Later clutches have been improved from the early poor ones

When I had mine changed last year it cost £750 + VAT at a main dealer, that included the complete clutch plus the slave cylinder.
The good news is that the current design of clutch is vastly better than the original, and you probably won't have the problem recur once a new type is fitted. The other good news is that, if yours is anything like as bad as mine, you will find that it really does make a huge difference to the driveability of the car, it will be a vast improvement. It doen't seem quite so painful when the improvement is that marked. |

If the vehicle has a full service history I would be tempted to try to get LR to contribute to the cost for what is after all a known fault. Steve.

Check out the handbrake drum - binding and rattling shoes when hot in idle are apparently a "known" problem to LR. Mine has it after a nice motorway run cruising in neutral up to the lights. It's particularly bad if I "flick" out of second into neutral with the clutch depressed. When it happens, try pulling the handbrake up just a little - if it's like mine it should stop.
HOWEVER, after LR failed to sort mine out, I'm still to be convinced it isn't the gear/transfer box. If you get it fixed, please let me know how. I will do the same ![]() Good luck, Matt Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

I have now developed these symptoms but they're not all the time. I'm going to get a quote from Lookers and my Indy.
Bloody British car parts. Has anyone used Mr Clutch for a Defender? I assume they'd need to use OEM. |
