Chile 2007 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 SW Stornoway Grey

Is the first type one, the same that I have (change one time before the 1st bulletin).

Thanks Eduardo my friend!. I thought as much as it's only just done 3000 miles.Now I know where it is at least I can check it for oil leaks. I wonder how much Land Rover would charge for the latest one just as a part, not fitted?.

Hi Sasha2001. Is this the case for all of the attempts to get it right then?. In the case of the latest bulletin with the new gaseket as Eduardo kindly told us about in the first post, could we buy one from Ford?. I would rarther buy one and have it fitted than wait for the inevitable to happen.

Heard yesterday that there is a fourth vacuum pump replacement available. Not sure if this is the same as GTR bulletin in April 2009, as I was under the impression that that was a second replacement. Can anyone confirm that the bulletin of April 2009 is still the latest vacuum pump replacement?

Mine looks OK.. but the gasket at the front of my engine next to this pump shows some oil around it.. Should I have this looked at? 2008 110 2.4 tdci csw

Issue: Changes to service process Defender 2007my
Methods engineers at Land Rover have recently studied the service process for renewal of the brake vacuum pump for Defender (LD) 2007MY onwards models (2.4 Puma).
In the new procedure the coolant fan is no longer removed and the battery is not disconnected.
Should it become necessary to renew the brake vacuum pump on Defender (LD) 2007MY onwards models (2.4 Puma), refer to the updated procedure on GTR section 206-07: Power Brake Actuation.

Old Repair Time: 70.50.19 – Vacuum pump – brake booster – renew – 0.70hrs

New Repair Time: 70.50.19 – Vacuum pump – brake booster – renew – 0.40hrs



Last issue regarding the pump itself has been issued on April 21, 2009

Reissue: Please replace the previous edition of this bulletin.
This bulletin supersedes TSB LTB00177v2/2008 dated 27 October, which should either be destroyed or clearly marked to show it is no longer valid (e.g. with a line across the page).

Subject/Concern: Brake Vacuum Pump Seal Oil Leak

Models: Defender (LD) 2.4L Diesel 2.4L Diesel VIN-range: 7A732615-9A779263

Markets: All

Section: 206-07

Summary: Oil leaking from the brake vacuum pump front oil seal. This version has been issued for a change in the Causal Part and End VIN.
Cause: Dirt ingress into the pump pulley seal resulting in damage to the lip and subsequent oil leakage (the new brake vacuum pump has a secondary dirt lip seal). Suggested Customer Concern Code - R31.

Action: Should a customer express concern, install a new brake vacuum pump (refer to Global Technical Reference GTR Workshop Manual, section 206-07).

Cheers Eduardo, that clears up the confusion. Looks like a procedural matter rather than a new version. I was a bit concerned as my April 08 110XS went in yesterday for the clutch to be relaced with the updated version and they said they would replace the vacuum pump as I would rather have it sorted before it was likely to fail.

I have in conversations with our dealer for at least 1 year to change the old model pump (still not leaking) without success. Sad

The Technical Service Bulletin says it all! "Should a customer express concern, install a new brake vacuum pump". I expressed my concern to the dealer that many pumps had already failed and I would not be too happy having mine fail on a trip as the mileage builds up, especially as it is a known issue and they are now on their second upgrade. Perhaps you could try again and hope that your dealer is a little more cooperative!

Just had a bunch of stuff done on mine including the vacuum pump (a load of oil sprayed all over the underside of the RHS of the bonnet gave it away). The quantity of oil is not that high so I doubt it would cause problems on most trips. Still worth either getting it looked at or carrying a spare if you're out for an extended period. One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS
