I saw that before and it almost frightened me off even trying - seems like serious overkill Shocked
Doesn't seem to bring any advantage over just drilling one hole through the plastic and one in the frame Rolling Eyes
Also, I don't reckon that cable's chances, bent around and up against all that sharp metal... Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

As promised:

This is the position where the cable sheath goes in:

and from the inside you can see the sheath going through. Sorry I can't remove the door seal as I've..."sealed" it with Sikaflex (but you can easily see inside where the recess is deepest):

and finally where I fixed earth (the alloy is much thicker here):

I deliberately kept it "low tech" to avoid problems of wear and tear. Using this method, there is no kinking or chafing of the cable or any movement of the sheath outside at all when the door is opened or closed. Everything (glue, wire etc.) will be painted black in a few hours and, if I say it myself, the finish will certainly be in keeping with general LR build "quality" Laughing

Incidentally, the polyurethane glue is from Bison:

Ive done this on my Truck, your more than welcome to come and have a look. Ive gone just under the hinge, bit more better looking than a grommet on the bulkhead, I also have a large 6mm drill to drill the bracket with to feed a cable through, although this took ages and was well tight!

I would probably order the Mudstuff elements for an extra pound over those. The Mudstuff isn't a printed circuit so there's less chance of an open trace rendering the element dead. Plus it looks like the Mudstuff ones would be able to heat more surface area like it says on their web page.

That was the "frightening" one I saw - might look pretty on the surface but I didn't fancy the bent, trapped, chafing cable...
