It'll fall off on its own given enough time .

hi i read this post about 15 mins ago and it stirred me up to do it just been out there less than 5 mins job now done , bloody annoyed at myself for not doing it sooner as the hose has been rubbed badly i see it goes in to the bulkhead is it an easy replacement or a royal pita, its going in for a full service all oils replaced in a couple of weeks to my local indy so depending on peoples opinions i may wait for him to do it, if you havent done this take heed i consider myself lucky that this didnt burst the pipe paul n tash

Just checked my heater hose by the lifting bracket (still fitted) and it is fine.
The hose on mine is held away from the bracket by a plastic clip that goes round the hose and the other end is clamped around a wiring harness. However, my turbo heat shield was undone - now fixed Bob 2015 Jaguar XE240 R Sport - goes like ....... !! 2013 Defender 90 CSW - sold 2009 Defender 110 Double Cab - sold 2001 TD5 90 CSW - offroad project - sold to a forum member 2011 Porsche Boxster - for the sunny days ! |

hi bob i looked at it a while back and our hose was not touching the bracket either,its held by a plastic clip to a wiring harness which was why i left it but im guessing there is some movement of the engine when driving as it has still chaffed badly paul n tash

I apologize for such a dumb question, but once the bracket is removed, the bolts can be discarded or they must be reinserted and tightened into the engine ?

Tape them to the bracket and hang the bracket up somewhere, somebody will be looking for an engine bracket in 20 years time

another reason to remove it..........mine ate the f-ing harness and started going into limp mode on certain turns at certain speeds..........could not figure out the problem as it was sporadic.
then were able to reproduce the problem by manually "moving" the harness and there it was. HATE THE RED BRACKET!! |

Just checked on ours, bracket is still there, but there doesn't appear to be any pipes / wires going anywhere near? It's also tightly bolted up.. Do I still need to remove it?

Same with me. Red engine bracket is there. Nothing comes closer than 3 or 4 cm, so presume no need to remove it. Who knows, one day in the future it might serve its purpose. Hope not of course... You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

For the sake of two minutes with a 10mm spanner or ratchet I think it's worth removing and storing away in the vehicle anyway Steve.
Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades. Current Defender: A non tarts hand-bagged Puma 110 XS USW. Going by what many others have said the bolts work loose through engine vibration. It just make sense to avoid future problems. The brackets are now taken off during production. |
