Gearbox and T-case Oil Level.
Hi!

Someone knows where is the "level check" or the "level bujon?!?!?!?!?" (I don't know the right term in english) of the new 6 speed gearbox, and of the T-case, of the new Defender??

Thanks a lot!!!

Regards

I've not looked at the 6 speed box, but the transfer box is filled to the point that oil comes out of the filler hole (about half way up just behind the handbrake drum)

I'd imagine that the main gearbox is the same too, most are.

Hi mse

Lets see if I understand:

You are saying that there are only one hole for fill/level for the gearbox and T-case, and this hole is the one located in the T-case?

If it's true, the gearbox and T-case have comunication, and use the same oil!?!?!?

regards

I think you don't understand.

Let me try to explain (remember i'm from brazil, maybe my english are poor!!) hehe

I know that there is one for fill (thats where you check the level) and one for empty.

My question is:

The hole for fill the gearbox and the T-case is the same?

Or

Are just one hole for fill and check level oil for gearbox and T-case?

thaks for the patience!

I understand - there are a fill and drain plug for both boxes.

Remember though you only have to change the gearbox at 100 000miles Mike

100000 miles?!?!?!?!

Here in Brazil we change the diffs in 12500 miles (20000 km)

And Gearbox and T-case in 25000 miles (40000 km) (same oil for both)

and about the drain plug you refer that there are ONE fill and drain plug for both boxes????? when you said: "I understand - there are a fill and drain plug for both boxes."

And this only ONE drain plug for both boxes is located in tht T-case????

Sorry, but it stay confuse for me

The gearbox and the transfer box have their own fill and drain plugs.

I don't know where the Puma gearbox plugs are, but they are separate from the transfer box ones.

So the transfer box has fill and drain plugs, and the gearbox has fill and drain plugs - the boxes do not share oil.

And yes the service interval for the new transmission is significantly greater than those before it. Mike

Just trying to clear up some vagueness in the English language - the subtlety of "both" meaning "each" Wink
