What is the easiest way to adjust the hidden bolt behind the trim for the door stay. I am currently using an 8mm open ended spanner. It is awkward as I can only get a fraction of a turn at a time. I do not want to have to remove the trim. No doubt someone out there has a better way. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Adjusting the rear door requires the lining to be removed:

On the front doors I used a 1/4" drive 8mm socket that fitted between seal and the trim. Mahn

Maybe I missed something, but what is there to adjust? mine were just loose. From the factory! No suprise there then.

The position of the plate makes the metal rod press against the door stay more or less - depending what position it's in.

That's the beauty of Land Rovers. If it don't work then you can probably either fix it, replace it or invent something else to go in its place. I'm tempted to fashion something that I can use to fix the rear door open. If I park on any kind of side slope it is impossible to unload. A simple latching bracket should do. One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS + New Defender 110 First Edition |

Just what I did untill I tightened up the rear door stay spring, except I used a piece of wood wedged between the lower door edge rebate and the ground.

One of the guys on aulro.com. has used a gas strut mounted to the top of the door to solve his problem. Mahn

I thought about that but I assumed it would make the door harder to open or shut (again, with the weight of it + wheel it is already hard enough if you're going against gravity). I just assumed the gas strut would be effective at dampening the motion. I don't really want that - I just want to be able to lock it open so I am free to load/unload.
