It also slightly baffles me when people want to buy a used defender which "has never been offroad". It's what they're built for after all, and the answer to the question is "buy a new one then".

But with so many being bought for mincing around in wouldn't you rather have one that's been paraded around sainsbury's in Dorking than one that's seen some action?

It's a mine field buying a second hand one anyway. On one hand you would think that buying one from an enthusiast would be the best bet, however what if the enthusiast is a bodger and has done more harm than good? on the other hand buying one that's been minced up with, worse case, one or two green lane outings might be more sensible?

Either way, I guess no one type of owner can sell you a Land Rover with more faults than it came from Land Rover with Laughing Nick

Coincidentally I shut mine down tonight and noticed it is at 60,002 miles and it's a 57 plate 90 XS SW. My only observation on the drive from Aberdeen tonight is that it sounds happier at 3,000 rpm than 1,000! So far so very very good. I need to stop being so conservative (small c) with the 'gas'.

Was in my local garage the other day sourcing grabber Tyres and I spot a puma 90 commercial in for it's service......customer is on the road night and day......I nearly fell over 320km on clock what ever that is in miles...my mechanic just said all its maintenance was consumables and frequent oil changes. Theses engines will do high miles no probs.
