Need to take the center console off for changing a burnt out light bulb behind the temperature command. Seems there is more required for that than unscrewing the two black bolts in the middle of the console....
What needs to be done more for that? Last time I had it done by the dealer during a scheduled maintenance job, but right now have no reason to go there. If it is really cumbersome job to remove this center console, I might wait until I get delivery of the Black Wood center console (same as in the Black Pearl edition) which I just ordered in Germany. Promise to put pictures on here as soon as I receive this piece and get it installed. I just ordered it today from CRD/Startech and they will still have to produce it, and then send. So will be several weeks away at least, maybe more, don't know. In the meantime if you are interested to see, here is the link to the Black Pearl limited edition. http://www.landrover.com/content/switzerla...kPearl_SWF The top right picture on page 2 shows the Black Wood console. I have seen it in such a model at Autobritt Geneva last year and it was outright smashing. Will go well with the black interior of my SVX. I also have that same Startech steering wheel, which makes a world of difference in comfort to drive (and looks too of course) Still interested to hear how difficult it is to remove the center console myself, would allow to replace the current one by the Black Wood when it arrives (and change the broken light bulb too) Eric You never actually own a Defender. nice, is that a LRUK mod or do startech modify them when in the EU?

Hello,
once you unscrewed the 2 black bolts, you just need to remove the radio, and pull the console backwards. It must come, even it is quite difficult to pull. Some metallic clips are on the backside, nothing more complicated. |

What Molusk said.
Take the two screws out, remove radio and ease the console out (pull towards the centre of the vehicle) starting at the top. There are four metal spring clips that hold it in place so it might not feel like it is going to move, if so, just pull a harder Bob |

The Black Pearl edition was a limited edition in 2010 of the top of the line Puma 2.4 110, the conversion was then done by CRD/Startech in Germany, and as far as I know sold in limited distribution in Germany and in Switzerland only (30 piece in the last country if I have it right). If you go on the Startech website (www.startech.de), you can see that they now offer many of the interior upgrades of this edition as separate after market items. The Black Wood center console is not amongst those, but I asked them if they could produce one for me and they agreed. You never actually own a Defender. I would love to do that, they probably would last longer than the standard bulbs. I actually posted that yesterday asking if that was possible at all, but don't think got a response. Agree with bpman that it would be nice to do this, so... Anyone know if it is possible to change the center console bulbs by LEDs? I believe LR have done that now with the latest 2012 Puma 2.2 where they say that dashboard lighting has fully changed to LEDs. Not sure if it would be just a simple change for our 2.4s though. Sorry to mix one with the other TJ . Have received a few advises on how to remove the center console from others now, so think will be ok. Also found a specific thread on this item, all with more or less the same advise. Will give it a try, but won't go as far as damaging anything. Rgds, Eric You never actually own a Defender.
