I fitted LEDs in place of the bulbs in mine but it really doesn't work; I have gone back to bulbs.

The problem is that light only comes out the end of the LED so you get one bright spot and the rest is dark. With the more general light of a bulb the illumination is more uniform.

Biggest problem I found was getting a good contact between the capless bulbs and the holder.

It is quite possible to renew the heater control bulbs through the radio aperture without removing the console.

Thanks, that last one is a good piece of advise. Will give that a try.

And,..... That kills the idea of trying to use LEDs in the center console. Guess end of this thread Laughing Crying or Very sad You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Had a long conversation with Autobritt (local LR dealer) and in the end decided that we are going to leave the heater matrix fix to solve the colder air at the right side as it is. Even if the car is out of factory warranty now, Autobritt have records that I reported the problem 2 years back already, and LR would have agreed to still today do the fix as described in Topix, but as we have seen in a different thread, it would require dismantling the entire dashboard which a monster job.
And the risk being that while my SVX seems one of the well assembled ones, after three years and 55k km no trace of parasite noises, this might change with such a massive job to take half the front apart and reassemble it.
So decided to leave it as is, I will continue to open the front window as required to keep it cool enough my side, while the misses side is warm Laughing .
But Autobritt were kind enough to offer me that when my Black Wood center console will arrive from Startech, they will remove the existing SVX front and install the new one, plus change the broken dash light bulbs at their expense. Smile
Will also have them change all the car's fluids then, engine, gear/transfer box, diffs.
So halfway happy. Confused You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Will keep it in mind, but first want to see the result, and the new console won't arrive for weeks I think. My existing SVX one (alu coloured) in any case is spic 'n span.

Not sure if there would be a big price difference between a regular and a SVX center console cover. They both are just a piece of molded plastic.

Puma dashboard lamps are sold here:

http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu/VWP-.../bulbs.php

Look for type 286. 1.2 Watt.

Fiddly to fit. I dropped two down the back and I can't get to them. Doh!

Expensive from VWP though, I bought ten from my local factors for 35p each.

Any good factor should stock these, they're standard bulbs.

Genuine is around the same price.as that, I'd always go genuine for these because they are so cheap full stop. ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️

The ones I bought for 35p are actually high quality branded products from one of the largest and best known manufacturers of such things, quite possibly OEM.

They definitely didn't come in a blue box.
