And before anyone gets clever and says a Land Rover involves danger or injury even before the wires are fitted, that's covered under type approval.

Speaking of which and just to add to the debate, manufacturer-fitted/supplied roof lights are ok on the basis they've been type approved, hence alot of LGVs have 'em.
I just don't see the need for roof lights. How dark does it have to be for the normal lights plus a couple of A-bar spots not to be enough? Or just slow down a bit maybe?
They're like winches. Most get fitted in the quest for some sort of kudos without any real clue as to how and when they should be used for best effect.

I made a winch assembly that fits to my towbar (yes, I admit I have a caravan )
No kudos there - when I hitch it on I look a right tosser  Tell someone you love them today because life is short.

I like roof lights, and even with a white bonnet never had an issue with glare. They came in handy in the desert both on the one occasion I drive at night (to rescue one of the guides) and when we hit a fesh fesh plain. The only reason I didn't get rear ended was because I put my rear too mounted spot on.

And I found the vent cover really effective at improving the ventilation on a 200tdi.

Then again, you thought fitting a kenlowe was a good idea, so forgive me if we don't put too much stock on the above

Bloody right. Utterly ridiculous.

Roof lights fine if you work for border patrol on the US/Mexican border, or fine if you work in mining and move equipment, even fine in the bush in australia to search out kangaroos. However, not much use in Tesco's car park in Dorking on a Friday in December. Then again, it is as you say: "I have bought a defender, therefore I need A: a winch, B: rooflights.
