On a positive note, I am now (note: just me) extra sure that I won't fit roof lights, bush cables, a winch or an unstable Hi-Lift (whatever one of those is). Also don't regret getting a soft-A-bar that can't take a winch. Will be fitting window grilles soon and I know I won't regret it as they are purely functional. The snow-cover is currently stopping snow from getting in and the raised intake...okay, so that's a bit naff (like it's owner).

It is all down to NEEDS and WANTS

If you NEED to modify your vehicle so it is more suitable for your particular needs then that is fine!

If you WANT to modify your vehicle and can afford to do so then that is down to your personal taste. Some modifications will not improve the vehicles capabilities as a 4x4. IMO large rims, low profile tyres are a waste of time and money and decreases the capabilities of a Defender, however if people want to do that then that is well sort of fine

Be careful about 12v/gas fridges. These are normally designed as caravan/camping fridges and not designed for a 4x4.

If all you are going to do is drive on a tarmac road to a campsite, then take it out they will probably be fine. If you intend going on unsurfaced roads or offroad with one of those in the back I would suggest that it is not the most suitable type of fridges. Yes I could be accused of being biased etc and trying to sell a much more expensive fridge as we sell the ARB fridges. The ARB/Engel/National Luna fridges are designed to cope with the pitch and yawl of a 4x4 whereas the gas type are designed for level type of use. So please think carefully how you are likely to use the fridge, consider the long term use as well as just the next trip or two you may be planning

Me too! Interesting that the roof lights light-up the bonnet and cause glare (prob worse on a light colourred Defender?).

Snow cover (I live in Aviemore - a ski resort - for a lot of the year), and driving lights (driving up single-track roads out in Northern Scotland in winter, with deer throwing themselves at your car) are still on my list of probable upgrades  Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

Cheers for that, I had a feeling that there might be a downside, the plan was ,(generally) as you say, drive to campsite, pitch tent, make camp then go off road after, but last trip out to Pyrenees meant a fair bit of off road on several days whilst fully loaded, so maybe not the best choice. Need to look into the ones you mention but in the past have looked and thought a bit more cash than expected! But if they do the job then that's the way to go. I'm guessing its do do with the coolant having to be level? The only downside (apart from the outlay) with the 12v only ones is if you want to leave it at a semi permanent camp it can't be run (or can it?).

Need more info on that before splashing out, all I need to sort out is some unbreakable eggs to go in it and we are good to go (yes I know they are mainly for beer and tonic water )
