List of Defender DIY mods

Hi,

I tried searching, but could not find anything related...

Is there a thread with a list of all the possible DIY modifications and or hints on the Defender? I am looking at the small upgrades that might make the vehicle more comfortable or last longer. I owned two TD5's and only recently found out about the Cruise control mod which seems to be an easy DIY job... The 99 relay on the wipers is another mod I was not aware of.

It might be usefull for people new to Defenders.

If no such list exists we could start something like that, maybe a someone could put links to those mods on the thread as well...

So this is my list so far.

* 99 relay - intermittent wiper relay upgrade
* TD5 cruise control upgrade
* Puma TdCi - fuel system bleed using a compressor, not the LR tool.
* 2009 Landrover Defender 130 Puma

2011 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 USW Orkney Grey

On the 110's...reinforcing the rear mudflap hangars where they join the body. 30 mins with a bit of aluminium plate, a hacksaw and a 6mm drill...big savings in the long run

It's only a little thing but with carrying passengers in the second row(they're only my boys but I do have to keep them happy

)but with TD5 station wagons and I've noticed with Puma's the interior light set up is a little on the dire side. There is a light to serve the front by the interior mirror and one in the back but nothing to let the 2nd row passengers see where they're putting their feet

I bought another LR interior light and put it in the headlining in the middle and spliced into the existing wiring to the rear light. Result is all round illumination for all. Even if you do nowt else inside this is worthwhile

I've never needed them but others swear by mud rails to get your seat further back.

Can't seem to get Dum Dum anymore so this will do instead to do your cappings etc as described in the LR water ingress manual!

when the wipers need changing try the silblades from mudstuff.
if you have the td5 then there is the clutch pedal return spring relocation.

as zag has already mentioned - the rear door stay (power assist) is very helpful

To be honest, there's a ton of individual threads on this board that have varying levels of DIY info. Search for something specific and you'll likely find it. If you want something super concise with photos; try BusterBus' DIY section on LandyZone.co.uk. Keep in mind, one person's definition of DIY is hugely different from another's...

It's been discussed having something similar set up here, but has yet to be implemented.

It is interesting to see the different things people see as important. I have no use for a snow cover, and corrosion is no problem where I am.

Paullo I understand and have appreciation for the differing levels of DIY. I find searching for mods difficult if you don't always know what you are looking for. I will checkout landy zone thanks.

Btw. The mud flaps can very nicely be replaced with some scrap three ply conveyor belt. Cut and bolt on. Th bolts will break off before the conveyor tears. Be very carefull with the belt knife though. 2009 Landrover Defender 130 Puma
