Remap not advised.
Hello
Where I live, the nearest respected TD5 remap specialist is in Albi, France. I called the guy, asked for a stage 1 remap on my 2005 110 TDI, when hearing I have 250,000km on the clock, he refused to do the remap. Would you agree the risk is too high. I regularly carry 8 people and could do with a bit more va va voom.
Thanks in advance.

Alive tuning will do a health check before progressing. I believe he did a 250,000 mile TD5 recently on his YouTube channel. 2008 2.4 110 Utility Station Wagon XS.

I run a 2005 Td5 with 196,000miles (315364km), It had a map on in before I bought the vehicle @ 28,000miles. I put a Turbo Technics S208 turbo on it 12 years ago and since a CJM manifold.
I do alot of towing and do like a 'spirited' drive, it has been a great vehicle.

So no I do not agree the mileage is too high at all.

Cheers

Chat to Empire Tuning they have agents in France. Any age and mileage TD5 can be mapped but mapping will highlight any potential issues you have now that you may not notice.

As always a full health check would be done before hand.

I won't be remapping my Td5, I am getting used to enjoying life in the slow lane.

I wonder if your man in Albi has had problems with remapped high milers when the time comes to pay a visit to the centre de Contrôle Technique agréé - is the diesel emissions test the same in France as UK?

Yes, indeed, I reckon it's the same.

There is no actual exhaust gas analysis (yet) during the test.

However, when not done right, a remap might increase smoke on charge, and opacity is tested. “A Land Rover immobilized is a moral defeat for the driver and bad publicity for the vehicle, […] it's up to you to do justice to your Land Rover!” - Land Rover Driving Technique.

My 2003 unmodified Td5 failed the Control Technique on smoke opacity (3.60 - should be less than 3).

Added some injector cleaning fluid product stuff and went for a good thrashing - normally it just potters around on country lanes - short-ish trips. Also change the brand new expensive but faulty LR thermostat with a much cheaper and working OEM so that the engine would actually reach operating temperature.

Retest passed with 0.17. I would think the initial failure was just build up deposits liberating themselves during the test routine. Or maybe the that cleaner actually did something?

When you remap all you can really do is add more fuel under load which if pushed will create black smoke, but when they test they just rev it unloaded. Maybe you can ask if the remap would affect the CT test?
