So you changed the MAF and the reading is not charging? Sounds like the MAF is no good, which from what I understand is a common issue with aftermarket cheap units.
But the MAF is not doing much on the Td5. Probably more likely a turbo pressure issue, or many things combined |

Thought about another MAF. However triedanother working one and no change. Also the voltage readings were from when the three pin plug was disconnected as well as connected. Turbo pressure lifts when the engine takes load. Photos taken at idle.

I had a similar intermittent problem. I found that the wiring from the AAP sensor had frayed inside the black cable covering, not sure what it's called. I peeled it all the way back to where the MAF wires join the loom and fixed the wiring. Problem solved.

Have you got continuity between MAF plug and the ECU plug (pin 20 on the red connector)?
If the MAF reading isn't changing from 4 then the issue must be MAF or its wiring. Faulty MAF does make them feel gutless. 1990 Defender 110 200TDI Camper - now converted to Td5 power |

Probably worth double checking all the intercooler hoses and fittings and check the intercooler itself hasn't split...

Check that the turbo waste gate is not seized.

I have to ask - Do you have a Defender Puma with a TD5 engine installed or the standard 2.4 Ford Puma engine?

If you have a nanocom you can download the ROW spec maps from Empire Tunings website which removes the MAF sensor. Its a poor and expensive sensor that isnt needed. IF this is a TD5 that is.
It should run better with it disconnected. If there is no change with it disconnected then your problem isnt the MAF sensor. Instagram @defender_ventures Empire Tuning - Agent |
