Defender TD5 2009 Power loss
All,

Have a TD5 that I have a difficult issue to trace. It has lost power, I think loss i of the turbo kicking in although all the Nanocomm readings seem to lead me to think MAF fault.

Have changed the MAF and MAP, plus AAP sensoes but no change. On the Nanocomm I found that the Air flow (g/s) setting sits at 4.0 g/s and does not move, (on stop, idle or reving). Have checked the three pin plug with a multimeter and over pin 1/3 (12v feed to earth) good readings. Pin 2/3 reads 0.2v and increases to 0.3v on reving. Pin 3 earth reading 0.65 - 1 as good as full continuity) Removing plug makes no difference to engine performance.

Also no fault codes listed. Although it has been sat a while, (battery flat, now recharged).

Only thoughts....

- Change MAF (done - britpart one)
- Faulty wiring
- ECU fault
- Fuse or relay fault, (although all checked)

Any thoughts, am I missing something

So you changed the MAF and the reading is not charging? Sounds like the MAF is no good, which from what I understand is a common issue with aftermarket cheap units.

But the MAF is not doing much on the Td5. Probably more likely a turbo pressure issue, or many things combined

Thought about another MAF. However triedanother working one and no change. Also the voltage readings were from when the three pin plug was disconnected as well as connected. Turbo pressure lifts when the engine takes load. Photos taken at idle.

I had a similar intermittent problem. I found that the wiring from the AAP sensor had frayed inside the black cable covering, not sure what it's called. I peeled it all the way back to where the MAF wires join the loom and fixed the wiring. Problem solved.

Have you got continuity between MAF plug and the ECU plug (pin 20 on the red connector)?

If the MAF reading isn't changing from 4 then the issue must be MAF or its wiring. Faulty MAF does make them feel gutless. 1990 Defender 110 200TDI Camper - now converted to Td5 power
