Hey Ruben,

The screen kit I picked up was about $780 CAD. But the price does fluctuate. I’m kicking myself for not picking up around Black Friday as it was $650 CAD then. If you research how you can use the cable the kit comes with so there is no further cost. You can also contact the vendor and they will do it remotely for you. I already had a gap tool for other software unlocks I had done. That cost about $900 CAD but not essential for this upgrade.

Going the OEM route with just the 11” the screen new is about 2k and all the plastic parts run about $400. You would then still need a cable adapter. Plus with either the 11 or 13” screen you may have to modify the top dash rail a little to get the fit right.

For all the how to bits I recommend the powerfuluk videos. They’re entertaining and they take their time explaining everything.

Great write up and thank you for the photos!

Could you confirm if you have purchase the screen from the same vendor as Thunderbolt on AliExpress?

Does the 13.3 offer much over the 11.4 in terms of usability? Do you find the 13.3 to be overpowering/distracting? I'm currently stuck with the 10 inch in my 2023.5, so either option is going to be a big upgrade!

In my opinion, the 13 inch screen looks much the same as the factory 11.4 display. The extra inch and a half is added diagonally so I don’t think it’s overpowering. I also have a 23.5 Defender and have spent the last two years sorting it out and trying to retrofit the missing features/options caused by the pandemic. I haven’t had the luck of finding a used 11.4 display (that wasn’t grabbed up before I had a chance to bid). New 11.4 displays require programming that is still not available via the GAP tool. And being in Louisville KY there are not a lot of options available for the programming needed. While there are folks in New York, Virginia, California that have the knowledge and equipment required it’s a long trek to get to them. Chinese displays are a lot like their TV’s, originally crap, then fast followers who produce quality copies and now some that produce cutting edge products. I was encouraged by the post by @Lucinda’s Dad and decided to tryout one of the Chinese screens. After hours of research (I should have used Rum like Lucinda’s Dad) I settled on the WIMAFUN Manufacturer Store’s offering. They were really responsive answering my questions and the price was reasonable. (If you haven’t used the AliExpress app before be aware that the same item may be listed several times at different prices choose the lowest one same product and service). Of all the different options there are, Genuine LR, kit’s offered by Powerful UK, etc, they had the most elegant solution. The mounting bracket is exquisite, no gaps, one piece, uses the existing backplate-real easy to install. The screen itself is plug and play. You do not need to rewire the connector plug! If you do nothing there will be a slight vertical stretching of the image. If you have the gap tool, you can change the CCF to the Alpine 11.4 and it will display the correct resolution. (Be aware that after you make the CCF change you will need to access a “hidden menu at the bottom of the screen to “activate” the display). If you don’t have a GAP tool, the vendor can change your CCF remotely using TeamViewer and your computer-they even provide the cable you need. I hope I don’t sound too much like a fanboy but I was impressed with them. So to answer your question- I don’t think the 13.3 screen is overpowering. Good luck with your decision!

@ThunderBob @LostCause

Thanks for sharing your experiences, very helpful for the community.

Can you confirm you purchased the 2022-2024 variation from your Aliexpress seller? They have 2 variants, one for 2020-2022 and one for 2022-2024, but they also imply that your OEM screen size makes a difference. Not sure what the difference is between the two models.

I also have a 2023.5 with 10" screen. Thank you!

@KeY-8 My Defender is also a 23.5 The vendor I used is WIMAFUN. To my limited knowledge there is no difference between model years. I was pleased with their communication prior to and after my purchase.

The size of the screen should not make any difference, there are inputs for the plugs for both the 10 inch and the 11 inch screens. Since you currently have the 10 inch screen, I recommend that you either update the CCF with the GAP tool or let them (WIMAFUN) connect and update it for you. Please note that even if you don’t update the CCF the screen will work albeit the screen will appear slightly “stretched” - see my earlier posts. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any other questions or concerns.

I managed to get my screen done now. My workshop agreed to code it for me (using a newer Defender that was "born" with this type of of screen).

Today, I got it fitted myself and after coding with GAP tool, double-locking the car for 10 mins and resetting Pivi Pro system it came online.

Thank you for everyone who gave advice and for all the awesome work done in this thread for this to work for others.

Hello my Friends.

I have got a question.

Is there a difference in resolution/ details being shown for example in menus or maps between the 11.4” and the 13.3” screen? Or is it just a bigger screen with proportional bigger pixels?

I have read that the WIMAFUN replacement screen has a resolution of 1920x1080.
Is it the same resolution on the original JLR 13.3” screen?

Thank you! Greetings

Philipp

The OEM 13” screen is 2048x1080 so it looks like there is a slight difference. Could be the programming for the aftermarket screen as you select 11.4” screen on its hidden interface and not 13”. Not sure if this could be solved with a vendor update later. Visually they look the same and everything is clear and crisp. With the additional space when you go to settings you don’t have to scroll the menu as it all fits on the one screen. Maps are also easier to follow and pinpoint things. Cameras get a lot more screen space. Media art really pops and it’s quicker to navigate while in traffic. Number one thing I noticed was that it’s much more responsive to touch then the oem as I was having to touch more then once at times for it to recognize a command.

Another interesting thing about the hidden menu is the options in Chinese to return or upgrade the system. So it would appear you can update it via the usb on the back. It’s possible that this would also be to add the android system as I would not be surprised if the hardware is the same and the OS image is simply not loaded on the “no system” version
