Flat Battery issue
I have a 2015 90 XS with low miles which sometimes has a trickle charger attached.

In Saturday after removing the trickle charge I drove 100 miles stopped turned engine off then drove 100 miles return journey, parked up in shed with no trickle charge due to length of journey and next day flat as a pancake.

Used trickle charger to recharge and has started up now it’s been removed the next day.

It has a winch but I have been told by Warn it doesn’t drain the battery, it has DRL’s. I removed the DRL fuse when trickle charging as they come on and off.

ANY IDEAS OF THE ISSUE PLEASE.

Is it the original battery ? At 10 years old it’s likely at the end of its life. If replacing the Varta LED95 is perfect.

See my posts half way down.

Else you are going to test for a parasitic battery drain. Plenty of topics on here and info on the Webb on how to perform the tests with a multi meter.

Does anyone know what type was the original battery, I will take a look later.

I presume the existing battery can be tested?

A Yuasa 019 will fit if you need a new one.

Do you happen to know, or could test what voltage it is at rest?

Beyond that, you’ll need to trace the source with testing for the parasitic current drain.

The interior lights can get water in, that’s a possibility, but the likelihood is there is a permanent live that is causing it as there is drain with ignition off.
So permanent live circuits are highly likely. Chillin In The Backwoods🇬🇧🇺🇸

Just replaced my battery on a 14 plate with low mileage. It was almost flat overnight after a 40 mile drive. They normally are shot after 10 years - have a look a the battery - if it black and has a Land Rover logo and in my case Varta make , then it’s original.

It’s a Varta, you can just see some of the logo.

And it started fine earlier and no won’t. Is it safe to say it’s defo the battery?

Is that a 3000 or 5000 series 019 Yuasa. And thanks for looking for a permanent live, there is a winch and DRL’s.

There are a few suppliers around.

The Yuasa is actually a slight capacity upgrade too which is good, it has the breather that’s plug and play also just like the Gen Battery. Thumbs Up Chillin In The Backwoods🇬🇧🇺🇸

The advantage of the Varta LED95 is that it is a dual purpose leisure and starter battery plus uses EFB technology. As such it is suited , more than any other battery, to a defender that is frequently left standing for several weeks without starting. It is also from the same company (VARTA) that made the original battery ( that was also dual purpose starter/ Leisure) but now with the enhancement of being EFB.
If you want the best ( and it won’t cost more than the rest) go to tayna batteries and buy one . Very Happy

While the age of the battery is clearly suspect, it would still be worth to check the charging voltage and if there are any parasitic current draws at rest..

of course you can also just fit a new battery and see.

Just had an interesting call with a lady from my local tyre/battery place, she was adamant the Varta LED95 is the wrong battery for my Defender. She made it quite clear it’s a leisure battery for a caravan and not “my truck”!

Well the lady is unfortunately completely incorrect. It’s a dual purpose starter / Leisure battery. The original battery is also a dual purpose starter / Leisure battery.

In the end you must make your own decision. However I did a great deal of research into the correct battery and this is the latest Varta replacement for the original (Varta) LR defender Puma battery that lasted you, and most others, at least 10 years. It’s just upgraded to EFB technology, has more Amp hours and greater CCA.

Other afore mentioned Batteries are also very good I.e , Yuasa, but they are just starter batteries, not Starter / Leisure batteries. They are therefore not as suitable if you leave your vehicle a week or more between starting.

Yes I know she is wrong. One of the reasons I posted on here is get input from others and by he sounds of it I am onto a winner with a Varta LED95.

And incidentally when I called Tayna they told me to buy an Exide EA1000 for around £90.00…🤷🏼‍♂️
