Brave or desperate?

It’s not the weather for that sort of fiddling. Well done for getting it sorted. Thumbs Up

Desperate - other mode of transport has summer tyres and not pleasant to drive in current conditions.

United Kingdom 1999 Defender 110 Td5 SW Caledonian Blue
At the weekend I had planned on swapping the steering drop arm and replacing with a new one to try and resolve some play in the steering.

Bent the tab washer back and the nut felt only just tight. Sad

I undid the nut and removed the lock washer and beat it flat to reuse as I could not find my spare.
This time to make sure the steering arm was fully home, I used a socket and a hammer to try and drive the arm further on the splines.

On with the washer and on with the nut. The torque was 176nm, so I did the nut up to this and then torqued up to 180nm to make sure and then bent the washer over.

Also re-tightened the nut for the ball joint onto the steering arm. A quick drive and it felt better.

Checked oils/water/screen wash/replaced rear wiper blade and greased propshaft nipples. 1999 Defender TD5 110

Yesterday, I changed the gearbox oil, and fitted Xeng magnetic filler and drain plugs.

The original hex key drain plug was definitely 50NM, I think it is too tight I managed to get it out, but you’ve got to be sure the hex key is fully home and in there so it doesn’t attempt to round out!
35NM is much better I think.
Were all of the factory plugs Hex key type on the MT82? Or was there some that was torx, perhaps I’m just thinking I’ve read that before.
The Xeng mag plugs are a flanged hex head bolt, thr original LR ones aren’t mag and are a female hex key.

I also lubed the transfer box linkages whilst under there, plus more to do.
Pretty much a lot of it is similar things to what Excossack mentioned in his last sentence. Very Happy Play Stupid Games, Win Stupid Prizes.

Play is progressively worse as you approach either full left or full right lock - this is the way the steering box is designed. Adjust for play in the dead ahead position - you might have to centre the steering wheel and reset the track rods - I had a LR pal do mine on a Saturday morning - cost me a case of beer

was getting sick of my phone overheating in the winter with hot air blowing against it.

3d printed. A first prototype, hence in red. Attached with double sided tape. Will adjust the outlets to face a tad more to the windscreen as the topmost part of my phone still gets some hot air. Didn't want to just block the outlet and it'll prevent my shoulder from freezing in the summer too.
