Most probably my mistake in that naks didn't say the coolant temp had dropped..that's just me making another assumptionšŸ˜«, and relating the coolant to the mention of a drop in exhaust gas temp...
Still find any drop in running temp odd when adjusting ratios in that way mind, but 20 deg on exhaust temp which can fluctuate wildly is possibly not meaningful..

Finally managed to go for a highway drive after we got back from the holidays, and it is such a pleasure to drive now!

At 120kmh (speedo) it's sitting a tick over 2000rpm, running much easier than before.

EGT is also down about 20C, and oil pressure is down by about 0.2 bar.

All in all, a really nice mod, pity the transfer case didn't die sooner, this would have made a major difference to my fuel consumption over 10 years Rolling with laughter

Great feedback,

glad you are pleased with the gear set Thumbs Up Dave

^ yes, indeed. I haven't looked at the transfer case oil temperatures though.

After a few hundred kms, I have noticed that the pre-fitment drivetrain issues have come back: the clunking when coming to a stop, the vibrations, and the high-pitched whine.

The car now also 'grabs' when I come off the accelerator, and where before I could idle in 2nd gear, it now jerks and stalls.

So not too sure if the latter is as a result of the different gear set, or if there was a fitment error, or what... --

Props ref drive train knocks etc? What are they like?

You mean coast at idle revs with in 2nd? Going to that gearstick it won't pull it at those revs and will stall, function of the gearing I would have thought. Cheers

Some clunking when coming to a stop, drivetrain vibrations at 2000rpm, high-pitched whine when coming off the throttle

Yep, coast at idle in 2nd, although I do get that this is the new gearing.

But the sudden grabbing when I come off the throttle is very off-putting. --

^ can't say that I've noticed any increase in temps.

A bit difficult at the moment as ambient is +-40C --
