Just realized I posted this in some random thread in November, lol
Still don't have everything back together yet, but it's coming along. Hopefully will be getting the engine back in the weekend before Christmas. ------------- Back in early November..... ------------- After a bit of a lead time all of my clutch parts have arrived ๐ฅณ Click image to enlarge Also finished painting the inside of the wings and the wheel arches this week Click image to enlarge Hopefully I'll have the frame power washed out later today. Next up is to clean and paint the frame, engine compartment components, and engine side of the pillar. ------------- Today.... Click image to enlarge The wings and engine compartment are all back together, electrical is cleaned and wrapped. Have a few odds and ends like the side steps to re-install. Then I can finally get the mechanical bits all back in! |

Steady progress, hoping to have the new clutch all installed this coming weekend, and then get the engine back in the following weekend.
I'm happy with how the trim and front end black paint turned out, but now I'm definitely wanting to do a full frame off ๐ Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge ------------------ BEFORE Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Excited to also paint the hood to match the body, should look way better. ๐ป |

She's looking good so far with all the work you have done to her and you can't go wrong with the Valeo clutch kit 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up.

Looking good, it pays to clear out that dirt as itโd only contaminate the new clutch which isnโt ideal.

I definitely spent more time cleaning than just about anything else since I pulled the engine ๐
37 years worth of dirt and buildup. But I plan to keep this one forever, so any chance I get to go deep I will. Would love to do a full frame-off, there are just some places I can't reach without going all the way. |

The Defender has been SORNED for over a year as I meant to do some work for the MOT at the end 2023 and never got around to it.
First job was the handbrake cable which had melted its innards to the outer cable cover . All the earths seem ok so donโt really know how this happened; it came on gradually. After struggling upside down and needing an extra set of arms to refit the shoes, I removed the backplate and set all up complete with new cable in the warmth of my garage. All now functioning correctly. Next job was the windscreen wipers which had been behaving erratically; working intermittently at high speed and often not stopping. After reading Blackwolfโs excellent post about the issue, I ordered the carbon brush plate and park switch. The original motor looks quite substantial so Iโm hoping changing the brushes for ยฃ35 is a better investment than a pattern part motor. I was hoping to just take off the motor by squeezing down the left side of the dash but the wheelboxes had seized so I had to loosen the whole dash and push it forward to replace the wheelboxes (with genuine and new, well greased inner spring/cable) Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Next job is to fit Gywn Lewis steering bars, and a couple of new tyres on the front and it should pass ๐ค๐ป 2012 110 XS SW Orkney Grey 2003 D2 Td5 Black [SOLD] |

After over 3 months, the engine is finally back in!
The boom on the engine hoist/crane wasn't long enough to get the engine in/out, so I ended up using a chain hoist. Makes getting the vehicle and engine lined up a bit more tedious ๐ซ . This was my first engine removal, so I figured getting it back in would be rough. In the end it went in smooth, but definitely had me frustrated for a bit. You should get a good life out of the Valeo clutch on the engine and trans that you have. No Guts, No Glory.
