My understanding is that the seal for t the 99 and up Td5 sun roof is not replaceable. That seal is not a replacement one for your roof. It is for a 98 and earlier lever latch sun roof. The later one, like mine (also a 99) is the whole thing only. 🤷‍♂️ 2010 Range Rover MkIII Autobiography Super Charged (Idris)

That is the correct part. Only the whole thing not just the rubber. 🤨. Pic your requested. 👇🏻

I have found that the original seal for the twist handle sunroof is long lasting, usually what causes leaks is where the roof hasn’t been operated for six months over the winter, the seal can stick to the glass on the rear corners and when operated it lifts the seal out of the frame and unseats it; the seal will then not seat in the frame properly unless it is fed back into position in the frame by hand.

They can also leak from the roof to outer frame fitment, this seal is foam strip and can go flat and leak over time - the inner rubber / felt trim can be removed and the sunroof frame unscrewed (torx self tappers), the outer frame can then be lifted and bedded back down again on decent sealant.

They specifically advertise that seal as being for the twist style sunroof, which is what I have. The text on LR Parts says:

"Introducing the LRC10106 Weather Seal for the rotary handle style factory fit popup sunroof...Previously only available with the AWR3321 Sunroof Frame, this particular seal fits between the frame and the glass. It's specifically designed for the Defender's later rotary handle"

But it seems to me anyway that it can only go in one way - and it does fit perfectly - but its design seems totally different to the OEM seal and means the glass can't fit properly.

A bit of internet digging suggests this aftermarket seal (LRC10106) was made by TASC Automotive who also trade as the Bristol Sunroof Centre. I was about to email them and ask for some info but seems they went out of business in 2021!

LR Parts weren't particularly helpful when I messaged them, so it seems I am up the creek. I don't fancy forking out 600 quid for a new sunroof if I can help it.

Damn! That sucks. It seems to me that a new seal would curve down rather than upwards it would work🤷‍♂️ 2010 Range Rover MkIII Autobiography Super Charged (Idris)

I'm in the same mess! Bought the replacement seal and now my sunroof doesn't shut properly. It's letting in more wind and rain than with the old seal! I've found TASC trading on eBay as jimmerj1 but the phone number is not in service.

Did you get anywhere trying to sort it out?

Can anyone tell me how to remove the glass from the twist handle end?! Can't figure it out at all.

Thanks

Yup, exactly the same problem as me.

The TASC one is the same as the LR Parts one. I know because, out of curiosity I bought one from that same seller to test it out. Saw it was identical, so sent it back. The seller is legit, from a bit of Google digging it looks like he used to run a sunroof business in Bristol and is now selling off stock on ebay.

This replacement seal physically 'fits' but it's just not right. I thought I was going to break the glass when installing it, it's that bad. It forces the glass to be too high, meaning it squashes the seal out of shape at the front, and the twisty handle doesn't have enough force to close it properly at the back. It's Censored , basically.

At the moment I am living with a bin bag on my passenger seat to catch the water that pours out of it whenever we have a bit of drizzle, and plan to just use a load of Sikaflex to bond it permanently closed when we get a bit of better weather and forget about the damn thing.

Why someone went out of their way to engineer an aftermarket seal that physically fits the channel fine but is completely the wrong shape to actually seal the glass, I guess we will never know.

As far as I can tell the only way to get another OEM seal is to buy a whole new sunroof assembly for £500+. Sod that for a game of soldiers.

Ok, that makes me feel better!!! The seal is just about 5mm too tall - shame it just can't be cut to fit.

I'm reluctant to have the sunroof sealed shut, not that I open it much, but feels claustrophobic not to be able to.

Might have to fork out for the whole fitting.

Can't believe you can't just buy the seal considering how bad they are.[/quote]

I know what you mean - I am too, especially as mine does not have air con so I was hoping to remove the glass for those few glorious sunny days.

Ultimately it's what I'll probably end up doing though, I don't fancy forking out for a whole new assembly plus the inevitable uber-faff of ripping out the old one and installing it.

I wonder if there's a way of cutting a bit off the top of it to make it sit a bit lower, or if that might make it worse.

I reckon it would make it worse as it's the part of the seal that supposed to compress when you shut the sunroof. Can't believe anyone has had any luck getting this fitted!

I queried the faulty design with LR Parts and they weren't interested.

I don't understand at all how it got into production. It just doesn't work.

Why not just copy the OEM seal?
