10p Constantly needing purge after head rebuild
Hello!

I've just finished rebuilding the head after one of the hydraulic lifters went.
Prior to filling up with oil I ran the fuel pump for a while with the injectors in to check for diesel leaks and couldn't see any.

I primed the car, cranked it and it fired up. A bit lumpy to start with but then ran great. I've taken it for a few 30min trips to and from work so far and everything seems ok.

However, if the truck has been sat for an hour or two it needs priming & cranking over a bunch again.

Fuel pump and filter housing are relatively new (within the last year or so) and this issue wasn't present before the head rebuild.

Searching around this could indicate the copper injector washers aren't sealing properly, however I'd expect the car to cut out on a drive if this was the case (as combustion gasses get into the fuel rail?).

I don't think any fuel is leaking around the regulator, but could it still be letting air in over time when the trucks sat?

Any advice on what to try would be great!

Truck is a

10p engine (with green top injectors for some reason, only discovered this when rebuilding the head, seems to run fine with them though!)

You describing failed seals on the injectors. If you prime on first start all good for the day, and no problems then on, till next time you leave it for a period of time.

Damn!

Will I need to drain the oil to do the injector seals again?
Is there a big difference between an aftermarket and OEM quality kit?

You don’t need to oil change. I would for the few ££ is costs though. I don’t think you are getting diesel into oil, you are getting combustion gases into the fuel line.

From my understanding yes a big difference in origin of parts apparently. But I fitted the kit supplied by Turners. They know their stuff. OE kit. Thumbs Up

Was the kit from Turners the full top end kit? I cannot see just an injector seal kit on their site -------------

There is a massive difference, even between was is advertised as genuine! The only ones worth fitting are the genuine seals that come in genuine packaging. Even the Britpart kits that are supposed to be genuine but packaged by them people have issues with regularly.

Also make sure the injector bores are spotlessly clean and that everything is torqued correctly and checked.
