What exhaust and what parts do you have fitted?

It’s a 1999 so has no cat, I’m tempted to put a centre delete pipe in

3inch down pipe and no silencers should do the trick, certainly does on mine.

TD5 with no centre silencer is a reasonable compromise.
Not too loud, but has a slightly more satisfying low down grumble. Weirdly, ours used to drone something rotten in the cab when the centre silencer was fitted- it's possibly slightly noisier now but is a less unpleasant frequency/sound somehow. The best ones I’ve heard on You Tube were made by Demand Engineering. I’ve used Longlife custom exhausts on several vehicles and have been very pleased with the outcome. I think a larger diameter pipe changes the note on diesels quite a bit, makes it deeper. 1983 110 automatic OM606

The demand ones do sound good, I think you might be right about going to a larger diameter, iv heard that before, In fact some say it actually makes to car quieter
