Does is happen more often in when it's cold / first thing in the morning?
Mine did that too until I replaced the clutch. It's either the release bearing or the spigot bush. |

It does it all the time in reverse I think that’s because the clutch is feathered in reverse fullin and full out its fine

Mine groans when cold as did my previous Td5 - which was still on original clutch when I sold it with almost 200k - so I personally wouldn't swap out a clutch just because it is a little bit grumpy first thing in the morning

Thanks for the reply. It’s not first thing it’s every time I use reverse but you’re right I may leave it a while

FWIW, my 99 110 CSW has been groaning with clutch peddle depression on cold start for 110,000 Kms. When it is in the sun and warm outside no noise on cold start. It goes away after full warm up. I suspect its the release bearing but, as the saying goes… if it ain't broke … 🤷♂️

Look for spigot bush - small bush inside of rear end of crankshaft supporting input shaft of gearbox. Mine was screaching for few years, and it was slowly going worse and worse, up the tha state of bad gear change, and with car in first low, it was moving even pressed clutch pedal.
