Although there are three pieces (top front and side) only the side is removable. The top and front are rivited together, so yes removable but only with a bunch of effort. (There is the inner plate too actually)
The whole wing is fairly easy to remove and you can buy complete replacements. If you don't mind the chequer rash surely you could hammer the top plate up a little before fitting your chequer plate? |

If you don’t like diamond plate wing tops, look for smooth aluminum plates. Much easier on your elbows and knees.
