Expedition Rack and Rear Roof Aerial
Hello all

Putting roof rails and expedition rack on my 110.

The rack has a cut out at the rear which is I assume to allow the rear roof aerial to still work well.

I’m putting a roof tent on top of the rack though which will cover the whole rack surface so will this interfere with gps from the aerial?

Most hard top roof tents seme to be around 2.1m long which is the entire length so hard to avoid. Even the official Land Rover tents by Autohome are so I assume no issues…

Thanks in advance!

Paul

The answer is... "it depends". What is the tent made out of? If its fiberglass/ABS plastic then GPS signals penetrate those materials. However *most* RTT's use at least an aluminum (sometimes honeycomb) floor so yes, it will impact the GPS signal. You should still be able to *get* signal but it may take longer to acquire. 2022 Defender 110 SE P400 Tasman Blue Expedition and Cold weather package

I got the whole roof completely full from front to back with no space to spare and the signal never has been a problem.
Neither gps nor phone. Usually the car has better reception than the phones in the car.

A little bit off-topic but where did you source a 75th coloured side pod, and what do those cables coming down from you roof rack do?

The wires are Bush Cables, been around for years. They are to push branches away from the windscreen.

"Are bush cables legal in the UK?
The police do not advise you to have bushcables fitted when using the highway. However are they 'illegal' ? the answer is no, they are not illegal. Our premium Stainless Steel bushcables are fully removable, we also stock quick 'tie backs' and 'quick release carbines' to relocate or remove your bushcable sets.

Haha sharp eye! I got it painted in the same colour , grashmere green. The guy did want to do a double take and came back with a device to measure the paint.
Came out pretty good Smile

The wires are bush wires. It’s quite handy if you are going off-road through dense areas with branches sticking out into the road. Even with these things the car - that was brand new- is a bit scratched all round haha. Battle scars :p
