2.4 TDCI with a larger intercooler, "improved" intake, CAT & EGR delete, otherwise stock exhaust.
Ran fine, not particularly noisy, not particularly quiet either. Did the Bell 150 hp remap. Very happy! Pulls well though you do have to watch the pyro when the engine is loaded, such is life. BUT, it now has a pronounced turbo whistle that comes in quite low rpm and throttle position-wise. It is actually a shrill shriek. It is quite pronounced. I can't find any signs of leaks and, here's the weird thing, it seems to be coming from the rear of the vehicle rather the engine area. Anyone have a similar experience? Is the stock exhaust potentially a bottle-neck that is causing the shriek? Sounds a bit crazy to me but it did start immediately after the remap. |

I remember having a transit that used to whistle under acceleration if I remember correctly.. never ever found anything wrong as such and it did stop over a period of months...
I think if you have gone to the trouble of improving your intake side , it makes sense to do the same on the output side...ie de restrict the exhaust..it improves the overall ability of the engine IMHO.. |

My first Puma (07) used to snap an exhaust manifold stud and then it whistled like crazy. You couldn’t see the leak just hear it. 2011 130 Utility Body

My turbo whistles, sighs and a whole lot more. I’ve changed the turbo gasket for Nakatanenga, checked everything else for leaks and now have just embraced the whistle. I’m not sure if my neighbours feel the same way though.. It sounds very different from a standard Puma, more like a Dakar race truck, but I just presumed that’s what happens when you modify for more power and a freely flowing system. WARNING.

My current vehicle sounds most uncharacteristic. Free flow air intake, big intercooler, 190 re-map, de-cat, 3 inch Demand engineering exhaust with just a small centre box. It’s not obnoxiously loud or anything but there is some distinct noise when coming off the boost. Induction also sounds quite different. 2011 130 Utility Body

Good suggestions. I'll double check all the gaskets even though they show no signs of leaking.
"plus what do you mean by watch the pyro?" On steep, long hills, I'm adjusting the throttle back to keep the gauge reading under 1400F max. I can easily push the gauge to 1600F, maybe more. This is NOT at 50 mph, more like 70+ mph. On really steep hills, I can only maintain 60 mph while riding the gauge. Before the head gasket blew, and the head cracked, and before I fit the pyro and remapped it, I would romp up hills and fly down the highway at 85 mph, no problem. I actually remapped it because I was pretty sure someone had been in there before and I wanted a properly developed map rather than some "tuner's" dream. |

I believe the OP is referring to a Pyrometer Gauge (AKA - exhaust gas temperature gauge) that he has installed. More here https://drperformancerx.com/blogs/news/wha...STJ52WMEqy |

Just sell it and buy a 2.5N/A
No need to worry about turbo whistle then. ln fact no need to worry about anything. Although you'll have plenty of free time to daydream if you're doing a long journey in it. |

Click image to enlarge Black Wolf call it. Cracked manifold to turbo gasket. Much quieter now. Damn, that’ll be another round of drinks I owe… |
