The bonnet mount is from Tuff Ant, I also have this fitted and can swap out 2.1 and 6.6 antennas
without the fear of it “whipping” back and damaging anything , you can even fully open the bonnet and the antenna sits above the screen with plenty of clearance Click image to enlarge yet another pommie bar steward down under MY20 110 P400 SE Defender MY10 3.0 RR Sport |

In the UK we are mostly limited to CB radios which means the antenna are usually long and bendy. As long rigid ones would be prone to damage.
Something like this: Click image to enlarge They move about a lot, esp if you catch low hanging branches and the like. In other parts of the world you can use radios with different frequencies and allow for more compact antennas. The only other option in the UK would be a PMR446 radio which is a UHF frequency and would allow for a smaller more compact antenna. But legally PMR446's sets aren't suppose to have a detachable antenna. And while there are a few car based sets, it makes wiring them in harder as the antenna is fixed to the wiring. You would also need to get everyone in your group to switch to PMR446 too and CB is still more common. For anything else you'd need a HAM radio licence. But again you'd need to get everyone in your group to pay, take and pass the HAM radio test. |

Expensive is that bracket!
I’d worry about the antenna slapping the back of the door as well, most have a loading coil at the bottom |

Thought that would be the easy route out.
Any idea on how much the brackets are? |

Hi - I have seen reference and pictures of "Ray's Mount" that goes on the roof rails of a Defender. Please will someone let me know where I can get this mount. Just taken delivery of my new Defender and looking for aerial mounting options and the pictures of the mount look like what I am after.

I have ordered a couple of bonnet mounts similar to the posting from "zilch". I need to mount multiple aerials for VHF/UHF (and occasionally HF). The magmounts that worked fine on my Discovery 1, Discovery 2 and Discovery 4 are now of no use except maybe on my wife's car .

The tuff ant mount is an easy fit and uses the existing hinge bolts, you can route the coax under the plastic trim and enter the cabin via the steering column rubber grommet in the firewall.. Minimal fuss. I have fitted a GME XRS 370 under the centre console storage area and used a holdmyphones mount for the XRS Mic, attached the mic mount to the dash mount with double sided tape, no drilling, just a small hole needed in in the steering column grommet to feed the coax.. simples. yet another pommie bar steward down under MY20 110 P400 SE Defender MY10 3.0 RR Sport |

I have just received the first of my bonnet mounts from GMF (www.GMF4x4.au) who are located in Bathurst NSW.
