Rocker cradle removal 2.4 tdci
do you have to put the engine into specific position to remove the rocker carrier or can it be removed wherever crank/cams are ? Surely the rocker cradle is "loaded" at all positions at some point or other ?

Thanks in advance

Reason for asking is I too (see other post last month by another user) have lost the injector seat cleaning kit bung down cyl 4 combustion chamber & want to drop a valve using an overhead valve spring compressor to weave a flexi magnet into the chamber to retrieve

Yes, you can remove the rocker carrier in any position. Load points shift as the cams rotate. The key is taking care to un load the carrier evenly as you remove/reinstall it. Go Slow! Double check as you go that the rockers are properly engaged with the valves and the cam. Carefully tighten down in small steps and make sure there is no bending or twisting load applied to the carrier. It can and will crack otherwise.

Great stuff! Makes it a little less complicated trying to work out timing without the timing case off (and therefore replacing also)
