Should I rebuild short engine

I've been toying with the idea of rebuilding the bottom end. I already put a new AMC head last year.

Now there is no real signs of anything wrong with the engine but I overland full time most of the time so want it in top condition. I will have a few months with a garage coming up so I was thinking of doing it.

As I said not much sign but a few things have been going as the miles get up, just the typical like exhaust manifold, crank pulley.

I will be doing other work like installing central locker, and I want to put a hybrid turbo with remap.

It's just creeped over 160K with me putting on only about 20k.

So would I be just wasting money or would it be worth doing?

i'm a firm believer of if it isn't broke, don't try fix it.

given it's mileage, if it has a good service history i would leave alone. i have seen TD5's at over 200k and being fault free. they like oil changes and mine gets one annually which varies from 1k to 5k miles.

160,000 miles is nothing on a Td5. I would leave the bottom end well alone, other than checking the oil pump sprocket bolt. Treat them to good oil and filters every 5,000 miles or so, and they will return the favour.

Thanks for the replies guys. I guess I was obsessing a bit much as my next trip is around Africa. I had only a few small minor issues in Lapland which were easily solved, and it got me thinking would they be easily solved in Africa

i think the biggest issue you'll have out there will be poorer quality diesel.

If its healthy, id leave the bottom end a lone. Id put the wages into something else for it, that it needs, or you fancy doing.
