i'm a firm believer of if it isn't broke, don't try fix it.
given it's mileage, if it has a good service history i would leave alone. i have seen TD5's at over 200k and being fault free. they like oil changes and mine gets one annually which varies from 1k to 5k miles. |

As above - I’d leave it alone if it’s running fine. 2008 2.4 110 Utility Station Wagon XS.

160,000 miles is nothing on a Td5. I would leave the bottom end well alone, other than checking the oil pump sprocket bolt. Treat them to good oil and filters every 5,000 miles or so, and they will return the favour. Charlie

Thanks for the replies guys. I guess I was obsessing a bit much as my next trip is around Africa. I had only a few small minor issues in Lapland which were easily solved, and it got me thinking would they be easily solved in Africa

i think the biggest issue you'll have out there will be poorer quality diesel.

If its healthy, id leave the bottom end a lone. Id put the wages into something else for it, that it needs, or you fancy doing. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back Success is 90% Inspiration and 4 minutes Preparation # you can make it! |
