When i fitted my Koni Heavy Track i was advised to fit them front and rear at the soft setting and only adjust to medium or stiffer if they start getting weaker or if carrying very heavy loads!

i have front and rear on soft and they absorb potholes, speed humps etc very well.

Hmm, interesting. It'll be slightly different for a 110 though - more unladen weight over the back axle. Darren

my came with HD springs on the rear and had a very hard bouncy ride, don't often carry any real weight or tow so i changed them for standard LR road springs and put on qood quality shocks all round. made a huge difference.

bm52,

Any chance I could have the part numbers of the springs you used?

Also, which Koni shocks did you use?

Thanks,
Stuart

Hi
I use Koni Heavy Tracks - i think the ref numbers were something like 8240-1181SPX & 8240-1190SPX judging from a note i made on my phone.

Springs - kept standard front spings.
Replaced rear HD [Rear - Driver's side RKB500270 White/green/pink Rear - Passenger side RKB500310 White/green/purple] with the softer rated road springs [Rear - Driver's side RKB500290 Red/green/green
Rear - Passenger side RKB500280 Red/green/red].

Hope thios helps you. BM52

Just to add to that, having bought some Koni's very recently, the best price I could find was from www.defenderbits.co.uk. Very helpful proprietor, too. Darren

Ok guys so i spoke to Colin over at EXTREME4x4.CO.UK and i cannot explain to you guys how helpfull this guy was. I told him that i was looking for better handling on the road as the truck is mainly used as the family car when we are all travling together. He also asked about what was on the truck in regards to weight to give me exactly what i was looking for.

I got a price of around £560 for shocks (decarbon), springs, and anti roll bar kit (which he even said if the anti roll bars dont make a difference that they would take them back after being installed and used by myself + give me a FULL refund) Thumbs Up !

I said to Colin that i was actually willing to pay much more than that and i had seen a system that they have for over a grand and he simply said that it is not what i need at all. Yeah he could have sold me the Koni shocks after i said i was willing to pay more, but He was everything a sales man should be giving honest opinions about everything i asked about and in the end he has got me what i need for a cracking price. I think im going to buy the system next week as long as the BOSS approves Laughing , so will keep you guys updated on the progress once its installed Very Happy Very Happy ...

you've not come across colin befroe then! Rolling with laughter

Anyhow, if your rides aswell a mine i'd leave it well alone. It's firm, better with bodies in but not crashy or harsh.

That is a bit of an understatement. Do some research on him and Scorpion Racing. John

I'm back , been busy !

It seems Koni are the shocks of choice here. I never realized they were adjustable also

Reading about how the defender is bolted to chasis with out dampers. That's the first I've read anything about how that would adversely affect the ride. It seems like an easy enough fix for land rover to do from the factory.

I just loaded my defender SW up for a drive to Cornwall from Sussex fully loaded up with furniture etc. The ride was so much more compliant. I'm thinking shocks alone can't solve the ride issue. 110 HT TD5 - 110 XS SW Puma

I was also aware of the (now-defunct) Scorpion Racing's reputation when I bought from Extreme 4x4. Some of the team are the same (Roz?) - however, I believe the ownership is different, and they are in a different place.

All I can say is that, from my experience, they were extemely pleasant and helpful to deal with, took the time to listen to my requirements, and suggest accordingly, and I was more than happy with the quality of the springs supplied.

Just my 0.02p's worth.....

Just had a chat with my local, trusted Indie regards softer springs on the back, and adjustable shocks to improve the ride when lightly-laden...

His advice was not to do this until the warranty is no longer needed.

he said there have been recent instances where the local LR franchise had bounced warranty claims because of changes made to the "fabric" of the car (not accessories, but changes to the car's fabric from original spec).

He suggested that the local franchise were stepping-up warranty claim rejectons, and changing shocks/springs is not worth doing until warranty expires.

He did talk about one instance where a client had fitted much lower profile tyres (presumably not a Defender but D4 or RR) and a damaged suspension warranty claim been rejected by the franchise (presumably why the owner came to the Indy for help).

He has done a few suspension updrades from normal to heavy-duty (one recently on a 130 used by a tree surgeon), but not to soften the ride...

Just my Indie's opinion and experience...but it's made me think twice. Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

Defenderbits are sorting Koni's out for me as well Thumbs Up

Andrew, the owner, is very helpful and it helps that they are only a mile from my house Thumbs Up

One question on the Koni's, how do you adjust them - the instructions are as clear as mud ?
