My understanding is that service interval should be reset on every oil change as it’s resets the oil dilution calculations etc. If you didn’t reset it then it has no idea new oil in the engine and will ask for next oil change sooner. This is how my old 4.4 tdv8 L322 worked so no reason a Defender will be different.
A GAP IID will reset it and much more. Invaluable it imho MY25 90 D350 X-Dynamic HSE in Silicon Silver and coil sprung 1974 Series 3 Lightweight = "Millie" Many Range Rovers and Land Rovers over the years 😂 1949 80" - still in family since 1975 |

I think you gave me the answer I was looking for. I have the GAP tool but have not looked to see if it allows me to do what I was asking. I will take a look this morning and see what I can do with it.

You can reset the service interval in the IIDTool yes.

My last van. A transit. Just had the standard ford service from new. 20 k or 2 years.
It did 180k with no issues at all. And as far as I’m aware it’s still running. Oil must be much better nowadays. And engine build quality. Steve. |

Can anyone share how this is done? When I look in the GAP manual it references the reset procedure I already did which does not require the GAP tool. Power on, open driver’s door, open hood/bonnet, press brake then accelerator and hold for 30 seconds. I have done this which the system says it is resetting but the Pivi still shows 1300 miles until next service. Do I have to wait for it to actually reach the service interval? I would really like to have the interval set to near when I changed the oil. I guess I am not understanding how I use the GAP tool to reset this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You're probably right to be honest, but it certainly does no harm to change the oil more often. Personally l do a lot of short journeys so am not happy leaving it 20,000 miles. |

My original 2005 D3, owned from new, had done 231,000 miles when I sold it. It's still going strong and I only ever changed the oil as per LR's service schedule. In fact all my other D3 and D4s are still going strong and were only ever serviced as per schedule.
Many people on the Disco3 forum religiously changed their oil every 5-6000 miles, some still do, but it seems to have made no difference to crank failures the 2.7 and particularly 3.0 engines suffer from. Modern lubricants are very different to what many of us previously knew and are designed to meet the requirements of longer service intervals that manufacturers and lease companies require. I'll just keep mine as per LR service spec. And I plan to keep it 10 years + Eiger Grey MY23 D250 SE with bits. Known as Noddy. |

I think some people over do oil changes for sure, I usually go by the typical LR schedule and when the oil gets dark.
You can usually tell and know when it’s needed. It’s things like the Diffs etc that’s more of an issue because they aren’t quite as easy to check. Often get left longer than should be. I wouldn’t want to replace a Diff often that’s for sure, especially on the front plus there’s the transfer box and gearbox as well. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

I haven't got my car with me at the moment but it should be along the lines of Service menu > IPC > reset service message Cheers Ian -------------------- 22MY Defender 110 D200 SE, Fuji White. Kielder 4x4 Safari Instagram @defender_v8 |

Used my GAP tool to set the max height on air suspension. I was able to undo the engine undertray (with million of bolts) and drain the oil without lifting the car at all.
Pretty easy and no brainer that the cost of oil and oil filter is same as a full tank of petrol. |
