United Kingdom 2013 Defender 110 Puma 2.2 USW Baltic Blue
After getting fed up with the poor starting performance I got a new Varta LED95 battery replacement. No trouble starting since!

Gearbox and Transfer box Oils
That brings us up to today where I changed the transfer box and gearbox oils. The transfer box does have a leak which I do need to get looked at!

First off was the gearbox, about 2.9L of rank looking oil came out, it’s definitely been overfilled by the previous owner! I used a garden sprayer with a piece of bent copper pipe on the end so I could measure exactly the refilling volume to 2.2L.

Then the transfer box … only about 1.3L of forbidden hot chocolate came out and the plug had a fair amount of swarf on it.

I’ll have to keep an eye of the transfer box level but it’s definitely looking like a refurb is on the cards soon as the output shaft is clinking a bit too. 2013 Baltic Blue 110 Utility Station Wagon XS 2.2

My only advice is to fit a one piece LOF output shaft while you are in there. 2008 2.4 110 Utility Station Wagon XS.
