These guys do most bits that might get rusty or corroded over time. |

As the evenings are drawing in and Christmas is just around the corner I decided a little 'pick me up' and early Christmas present was in order.
Other people have mentioned excellent service from Stig Fasteners and I must agree. Ordered Monday evening arrived this morning. Not cheap but did a little research....OX4X4 do some nice looking ones but on E-Bay state that as the footprint is slightly smaller than standard if your paintwork is faded you may be left with a tidemark, so didn't go for their door hinges (have gone for their bonnet ones though!) Excellent engineering but heavy as hell..... Click image to enlarge If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Brendan am I missing something here? I looked at these but their description baffles me..... Cut from Safari's advert.... "These adjustable door hinges manufactured from stainless steel will enhance the look of your Land Rover Defender whether it's a 90, 110 or 130. Unlike conventional hinges these can be adjusted over time as they ware (like all hinges do) so as to stop the doors from dropping. Machined from a solid lump of aluminium they are available in sets of either 1 or 2 pairs depending on the size of the vehicle. Ideal for any Land Rover Defender been prepared for competition, restoration or special build." They can't spell, get their facts right and there's something missing in the last sentence. To boot the hinges look like they're off a Volvo....Boxy! Put me off it did! Presentation obviously played it's part. Yes I agree that Safari Equip website leaves a lot to be desired! Also the way that they do not have instruction leaflets in paper form or on their website is a BIG PITA!
Yes I could mention other inadequacies in their business. There again I could mention inadequacies of many suppliers in the 4x4 world. We are not perfect either. I might try and get some more accurate information and pictures in the next couple of days. No promises, however. Will take a paper copy of their ad in when I go in and show it to them! Ho hum, fun and games. Brendan |

All my searching was internet based, with the inconsistency of the information supplied together with the photograph that if they are made of stainless steel does not do them justice I scrubbed them off my list at the very beginning. From the picture they 'look aluminium' and if I was a potential purchaser I certainly wouldn't use slotted dome head bolts. If you look at most of the stainless steel bolt replacement kits the vast majority have the wrong heads on.
The exception is by Nakatanenga. I wonder who has some of those available in the UK. Brendan |

In the ten-year tenure of my neglected, rarely washed TD5 I replaced four door hinges…
Fixings easily accessible, sprayed with a can of touch-up paint, a job even I could manage. But I could have replaced at least a dozen of ’em with the cost of stainless steel hinges and screws! Do the maths guys. And if you're adding stainless steel to Defenders for the bling effect, please don't mock others who go for lifestyle Evoques and soon-to-be DC100s. Peter |

The ICE model has black hinges. Anybody knows if they are powder coated or just normal PU paint? Puma 110" SW

Who has actually purchased s/s hinges and mocked? What a 'throwaway comment!' Care to expand? Maths has got nothing to do with it. In mitigation yes you can buy replacement door hinges from as little as £6 each, however....Care to want to know what an OEM set from the dealers will set you back?....About £11 less than a set of stainless steel ones.
MK, 'PM' Bpman he's got an Ice! No doubt he'll pop along with the answer for you. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |
