I can confirm that you require a 1/4" UNF and not 6mm grease nipple as I ordered a 1/4" UNF 90 degree nipple and fitted it. The thread “felt” exactly right as I screwed it in by hand and nipped up with a spanner. Noting if it’s pointing the wrong way when tight , as mine was, you can use a 6mm flat washer to pack out and get it to point in the correct direction once tightened.
Many thanks to Blackwolf for investigating and highlighting the correct size and thread within the shaft. Edit: when I said 6mm washer I meant an M6 washer . My grease nipple was about 180 degrees out, I.e pointing towards the lower end of the bulkhead, the M6 washer was approx 1mm thick and allowed the nipple to face forward and up when tight. The perfect position to couple to the grease gun. Last edited by Ianh on 24th May 2024 10:14am. Edited 1 time in total |

If the 90degree grease nipple ... 1/4"UNF has 28TPI, converting into metric, pitch is about 0.9mm. So if you can find a 0.50mm thick washer, the grease nipple might end up facing the direction you would certainly prefer.
I have an M6 grease nipple waiting to go in Not too worried, its a relatively short thread, and only need to go in 1 time. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |
