Having own a number of "modern" cars with an all signing infotainment system, I found that I never used any of the cool features. For my Defender satnav I use an iPad mini on a RAM mount. This gives me a large screen with plenty of detail without messing about with the dash.
I sort of followed the hints and tips from here https://www.snayps.com Less expensive and of course you can use the iPad for other things. |

Stinger say they have now made the unit’s OBD functions compatible with pre 2012 Defenders. WARNING.

It does have CarPlay and works with Android, that’s irrespective of OBD2 functionality.
Mentioned here https://stingerelectronics-eu.com/product/...1810e-lr1/ RHS mid screen. So that means you have google maps, Tom Tom go, waze and other nav options powered by phone app whichever side the fence you use. Which is the same as what my Pioneer has, only thing I can see differs with the Stinger is, bigger screen, physical LR dash button layout different, and HDMI. Those three things are positives compared to what I have now, if from a 2 din you don’t need the side cut out for switches. If it was the same price as Pioneer or just a little more, then I’d consider it for sure, the extra price is a little high imho for those features but there is a lot included and if you factor in what some manufacturers would charge for factory navigation it’s cheap. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

It doesn’t have wireless CarPlay though. That means it either has to be plugged in to the USB all the time or you have to buy an extra adapter. Not a huge issue but it just shows the unit is already showing it’s age. Sound quality seemed ok but hard to tell for sure as I was listening in someone else’s Defender. WARNING.

There is that yes, but you do get some (little / barely at all noticeable audio losses).
Overall wired is more reliable and better quality, I use wired because I know it’s connected. When you go BT or Wi-Fi or whatever connection method it can take up more time than it’s worth. Some systems auto pair (auto connect). But if your in a rush you can bet that it’ll be not connected or one of the settings is off. Usually and likely on the phone side as it wastes battery a lot, especially BT. I guess they did that if someone wants the add on they can have it, to bring the overall price down. At least Bluetooth audio and calling etc has improved a lot in recent years, at one time many were very hit and miss. So much so, often they weren’t even usable. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

Im just fitting mine now to my 2012 110 here in Cairns Australia.
It’s beautifully put together and yes, you blank off the two centre aircon vents, and you loose the factory analogue clock. You also have to cut part of the dash away, the horizontal section of the dash above the factory stereo cut out, and two redundant sections. I’ll post my views after I finish fitting it. Im currently finishing fitting my Optimil washer replacement but have been stuck trying to fit the hose connector to the new 6 jet nozzle. A mongrel of a job!😕[/b] 2012 110 LS3 6.2 V8 - 6 Speed Auto |
