Just as an aside, I didn't get the noise on my last 90, but that had an aluminium skinned door. I think the steel skin on these later doors "drums" a lot more, bit like the solid side panels on the hard tops.

My 2008 Puma has the same door as the 2011 Puma but does not do it. It could be a simple adjustment of the receiving unit for the door lock could solve it. I have started adjusting mine but it will be trial and error (or pure good luck) to gt it sorted. It is just a matter of loosening the two bolts holding the receiver in place then shifting it slightly. I will probably still be posting updates this time next year! Anyway if it is the position of the receiver that causes this noise then all the maindealer will do is adjust it too. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Just a thought. Has the rear suspension been uprated to the stiffer heavier duty type to comply with the new commercial classification? If so that would explain the "jump" on sharp bumps instead of the smooth ride over them. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Have a good look at the door catch 'receiver' - the bottom of my back door is rubbing (again, having been sorted before under warranty) on the door sill plate and wearing down to the steel - the bottom plate on the receiver casting is curved or bent compared to photos on the web...looks like the cast material is too soft/thin to support the weight and movement of the door and spare wheel. 1953 80

Have a look at the rubber block on the receiver. Mine was slack. Tightening the screws did not work as one was too long and protruded through the bottom of the block. When the door was closed there was slack between the rubber block and the latch mechanism on the driver's door. This allowed movement on bumps. I removed the longer screw and fitted washers between it and the block. Before this I inserted a small washer between the top of the rubber block and the metal cap.Big improvement. Door is tighter as there is a tighter fit between the rubber block and the latch on the door. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

I'm still getting the clunking from the back of my 110. I have tried to wiggle the door on its hinges but there is no movement, with door open of closed. I have got rid of any lose items from the back, tried the seats folded down and put back to useable layout...no difference. So what the heck is it? 2011 110 USW

Thougfht this had cured it but sad to say it is still there. Might not be the door at all. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

By Jove, I think I've cured it....!

I think (not 100% sure) that in my case it was the second row seats moving up and down.

I noticed there was a lot of free play in the seat catch, allowing the seat to move up and down by about 5mm.

I folded the seat (larger of the split seats) forward, added a couple of 5cm square layers of noisekiller rubber I had lying about, under where the seat base buffer touches the floor.

Folded the seat back upright (took a bit more of a slam to get it to catch), and there was noticeably less movement.

Drove over some of my usual bumpy roads, and so far it seems to have cured it! Thumbs Up

Saying that, I also removed my Thule roof bars on the same day, so that could have contributed - I'm always amazed just how much roof bars stiffen the bodywork up - Doesn't help that Defender bodies have the structural rigidity of a lettuce leaf. Rolling Eyes

I have an adjustable tow hitch fitted. Here is a picture of it.

When the plate with the towball is removed-no more thunk thunk. When the plate with the towball is refitted the thunk thunk starts again on bumps.I must fit a piece of rubber ie. part of an old mudflap, between the plate and bracket to stop this noise.Give it a try and it might solve your problem. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

My rear door will make a similar noise if only on the first latch. Why not try moving the rear door striker in a gnats and see if that makes any difference [outline it on the pillar in pencil first before moving it then you can put it back where it was if it makes no difference]. Steve.

Tried adjusting the rear door but without success. Only thing that works is taking off the towball plate.Only takes a couple of seconds so i do not mind. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

check out your rear shock absorber rubber bushes, when they are worn and have alot of play it realy clonks when going over a bumpy road, get someone to bounce the rear of your puma while you look for play in the rubber bushes.
